L.E. QUINN March 23, 1939 Former superintendent of Ashdown Schools passes. L.E. Quinn dies in home in Texarkana. He was 77, Ashdown superintendent from 1910 to 1915. He was buried at Paris, Texas, where sons, Nivena and Erwin, who preceded him in death are buried. His wife, Nora Quinn, survives him, two daughters, Mrs. Fred Mitchell and Mrs. E.M. Talifero, all of Texarkana, one sister, Mrs. L.R. Summerow of Charlotte, North Carolina. My friendship with Mr. Quinn began in 1901 when he was superintendent of DeQueen schools. About 1903 he accepted the position of superintendent of Lockesburg Schools where he served successfully until elected to the same position in Ashdown in 1909. During residence in Lockesburg, he also bought half interest in Lockesburg Enterprise, then owned and operated by O.T. Graves. In June 1910 Mr. Quinn and R.M. Graves bought the Little River News, which was then owned by Lon T. Jones. Two years later, Mr. Quinn sold his interest to Fred M. Graves in order to invest in the mercantile business with his son, Nive. During many years of Mr. Quinn’s activity as a school man, he was widely known and held in high regard as an instructor. As partner in business, we learned his true worth. He was a man of high principles, big-hearted, agreeable, and loyal always. In the schoolroom he took a personal interest in each boy and girl. Hundreds of former pupils through Southwest Arkansas and other sections loved and respected him. He was a faithful member of Presbyterian Church, and elder in First Presbyterian Church of Texarkana. He had also taught men’s bible class for years. Mr. Quinn was a fluent speaker and had ably filled many pulpits in this section in the absence of pastors. Truly can be said of L.E. Quinn that a good man has passed to a greater reward.
