Portland, OR--REV. ROY L. JOHNSON--A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 18, 1995, in Lincoln Street Baptist Church. The Rev. Johnson died Feb. 13 at age 93. He was born March 3, 1901, in Alleene, Ark. He received a bachelor's degree from Ouachita Baptist University, a master's and a doctorate from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary, and took graduate studies at West Texas State University. The Rev. Johnson ministered to Baptist churches in Arkansas and Texas until 1959 when he became superintendent of Northwest Baptist Convention Metropolitan Missions in Portland. From 1967 to the present, he was manager and printer of Interchurch Printing, an instructor in Seminary Extension Center -- Interstate Bible Institute -- and Northwest Center of Golden Gate Baptist Theological Seminary. The Rev. Johnson also wrote several books on religion and church history. He married Nelle Laverne Cowan Aug. 4, 1927. She died in April 17, 1985. Survivors are his son, Don Paul Johnson of Annandale, Va.; brother, Foster D. of Houston; and two grandchildren.
