Bessie (Whisenhunt) Oates ELKINS 11/4/1899-4/26/1976
Sand Flat Texas: Mrs. Bessie Oates Elkins, 76 Grand Saline, Texas are set
for 2 p.m. Friday in the English Funeral Home chapel in Mineola with Dr.
F.D. Crouch and R.L. Box officiating.Burial will be in Sand Flat Cemetery
in Van Zandt County. Mrs. Elkins died Wednesday April 26, 1976 in a Tyler
hospital after a short illness. She was a native of Star City, Arkansas,
Garrett Community. Born to Joseph Lindsey and Leona Ester (Crotts)
Whisenhunt November 4, 1899. She was a 10-year resident of Smith County,
Tx. Moving here from Denver, Colo. She was a retired hospital employee,
and a member of the Silver Lake Baptist Church. Preceded in death by one
daughter Lavern Gross. Survivors are one son, Vernon R. Oats of Odessa, one
Brother, John Whisenhunt of Grand Saline: One sister, Mrs. Mary Elizabeth
Carpenter of Grand Saline; three grandchildren. Grandsons and nephews will
serve as pallbearers.
Arthur Chester WHISENHUNT 12/26/1889-7/17/1946
Dallas Texas : Arthur C (Whizz) Whisenhunt in the Fair Park Station, a
carrier in the Dallas post office since 1921, died in the Veterans Hospital
in Lisbon on July 17, 1946. He was born in Star City Arkansas, Butler,
Garrett Community December 26, 1889. Services are scheduled for Saturday
July 19, in the parlors of Lamar-Smith funeral home in Oak Cliff, with the
Rev. Cecil Funk, a fellow letter carrier, and Rev. Presley C. Hand of the
East Dallas Baptist Church. Burial in the Veterans'Garden of Laurel Land
Memorial Park at Dallas. He was preceded in death by his father Joseph L
Whisenhunt, two brothers Joseph E and Fred W. Whisenhunt, three sisters
Ollie Maye, Martha E. and Lula E. Whisenhunt. He is survived his wife,
Mirriam O Whisenhunt; a daughter, and by two brothers, John W. and James
(Jim) Whisenhunt of Grand Saline: his mother, Mrs. Leona E. (Crotts)
Whisenhunt of Silver Lake; two sisters, Mary E. Carpenter of Silver Lake
and Mrs. Bessie Oates of Denver Colo. Mr. Whisenhunt was a member of the
American Legion Post No. 275 Oak Cliff and the Odd Fellows. He was a
Veteran of the first World War and the Flag Service will performed at the
grave by his American Legion buddies. Pallbearers are Joe Richardson, L.L.
Bullard, W.W. Turner, all retired letter carriers, and J.T. Bolton, Oscar
Gleiser and Lyle Graham, Present letter carriers.

Sand Flat Texas: Mr. Joseph Lindsey Whisenhunt died 6/24/1938 in his home
at Sand Flat. Burial will be in the Sand Flat Cemetery, Van Zandt County.
He was born Sept. 27, 1867, Star City Arkansas to J.W. and Martha C.
Whisenhunt. He came to Texas with his family in 1919 from Star City Ark.,
Garrett Community. He was preceded in death by two sons, Joseph E
Whisenhunt and Fred Warren Whisenhunt, three daughters Ollie Mae
Whisenhunt, Martha E Whisenhunt and Lula E Whisenhunt. Survived by his wife
of 49 years, Leona Ester (Crotts) Whisenhunt. Three sons, Arthur C
Whisenhunt, Dallas, James J Whisenhunt, Arp, two daughters Bessie Oates and
Mary Carpenter, Silver Lake. Burial will be in the Sand Flat Cemetery.
Leona Ester WHISENHUNT 12/16/1871-7/25/1962
Silver Lake Texas: Mrs. Leona Ester (Crotts) Whisenhunt, 90, died at 5:45
A.M. Wed. July 25, 1962 in her home in Mineola Texas, after a lengthy
illness. Funeral Service will be conducted at 3;00 P.M. Thursday in the
Sand Flat Baptist Church, with the Rev. Royce C. Campbell, pastor
officiating, assisted by Rev. H.O. Lee of Grand Saline. Burial will be in
the Sand Flat Cemetery under the Direction of English Funeral Home. Mrs.
Whisenhunt was born in Star City Arkansas, Garrett Community, December 16,
1871 to the James Crotts and Martha J. Crotts. She is preceded in death by
her husband of 49 years, Joseph Lindsey Whisenhunt in 1938: two sons,
Joseph E Whisenhunt and Fred Warren Whisenhunt, three daughters Ollie Mae
Whisenhunt, Martha E Whisenhunt and Lula E Whisenhunt. She is survived by
two sons, John Whisenhunt, Irving and Jim Whisenhunt of Arp: two daughters
Mrs. Mary Carpenter of Silver Lake: 14 grandchildren and 20 great-
grandchildren. Pallbearers will be her grandchildren, Harold Whisenhunt,
Jimmie Whisenhunt, Billy Whisenhunt, James Whisenhunt, Bobby Whisenhunt and
Vernon Oates.
Lula E WHISENHUNT 5/27/1894-10/12/1933
Sand Flat Texas: Services for Miss Lula Whisenhunt Friday Oct. 13, 1933
she died 10/12/1933 at the home of her parents in the Sand Flat Community,
Van Zandt County Texas. Burial will be in the Sand Flat Cemetery. Miss
Whisenhunt was born May 27, 1894, to Joseph L Whisenhunt and Leona E
(Crotts) Whisenhunt, in Star City, Lincoln County Arkansas. She came to
the Van Zandt County area with her family in 1919. She was preceded in
death by one brother Joseph E Whisenhunt and two sisters Ollie Mae and
Martha E Whisenhunt. Survivors include her parents Joseph L and Leona E
Whisenhunt three brothers, Arthur C, John W. and James (Jim) Whisenhunt,
two sisters Mary Elizabeth Carpenter, of Silver Lake Texas, and Bessie L
Elkins of Sand Flat., many nieces and nephews.
