![]() submitted by Diann McDaniel The Old Newman Cemetery is located on the crossroads Old Military Road and Pigeon Roost (now Hwy. 212 West from Star City) Road. There were a lot of travelers coming through that area. They would usually stop there and camp for the night. One night, a group of travelers were camped there and had a great big campfire built. Children were playing around it, and one young boy fell into the fire while trying to jump over it. He died and was the first one to be buried there. I do not know who owned the property at the time, but, at one time, the cemetery was about 2-3 acres. Markers and headstones has been destroyed over the years, so no one knows who all is buried there. The NEWMAN family still have headstones, so that is why it is known as the Old Newman Cemetery.
