Wingfield Notes

The following are transcriptions of some of the articles written by Donna Lonon and Cecil Wingfield in the "Wingfield Notes" newsletter published in the early 1980s. They reflect Donna and Cecil's diligent research into the Wingfield family. Much of the research on the descendants of William Wingfield, Sr. was done by Magora Wingfield Owens. Donna has gracously allowed me to add them to my web page for others to use in their research. I will add each article as I get them keyboarded. In some cases, information has been added or corrected as a result of more recent findings. Thank you Donna Lonon and Cecil Wingfield

There has been controversy over the place of birth of William Wingfield, Sr. According to the Wingfield Family Society, William Sr. was born in North Carolina and was the son of Dr. Lawrence Wingfield. However, there is also strong evidence to suggest that William Sr. was born in England. In the 1880 Clark County, Arkansas Federal Census, Charles Wingfield, son of William Sr., states that his father was born in "England". Also, family "oldtimers" say that William Sr. and three brothers came from England.
