This is the Green Newton Family Cemetery located just southeast of El Dorado; about 400 ft. off of Hwy. 82 East (about 2 miles from the the junction of Hwy. 82 and Hwy. 167 south)..  DAR inventoried this cemetery many years ago.  Most of the tombstones are now gone or unreadable.   It was so overgrown, you had to crawl thru the underbrush on your belly.  It is located near Dunbar Lane which runs south off of Hwy. 82. (you can see the dirt lane in the background of some of the photos.)

Until the fall of 2003, it was almost impossible to get to this little cemetery without crawling on all fours, through a heavy undergrowth of vines, bushes, briars, etc.  The cemetery was completely hidden in the jungle of plant growth.  Someone clearcut the surrounding (approx. 5 to 7 acres) area where the cemetery is located.  You can still see in the photos the growth of vines, trees, etc. at the cemetery.  There once was an a single strand of large cable, looped between wooden post, surrounding the little cemetery.  There are roses growing in with all the tangle of vines and bushes. There are only 3 graves visible. William Baker Newton; Harrell Newton (*you can see pink chalk on his obelisk which I used in order to try to get a better photo of it); the third small stone belongs to Penelope Newton, a child.  I do know that one of the Newton's was one of the early owners of this land before selling it to J.D. Dunbar.

** This cemetery is located East of  El Dorado, about 300 feet off of the south side of Hwy. 82 East (Strong Hwy.) and near a dirt lane called Dunbar Lane or Road.  Until this past fall, this cemetery was in dense woods, almost impossible to get through the thick shrubs, trees, and undergrowth. About 5 or more acres around the cemetery have been clear cut, but the small debris left, still makes for difficult walking to get to the cemetery, which is located on top of a knoll and at this time, visible from the dirt lane or the highway.  There are three graves with two large obelisk tombstones for the two males & a smaller standard type tombstone for the female.  These tombstones are in excellent condition, but there are plenty of saplings & vines all around them.   They are surrounded by  four old wooden post, connected by a steel cable.  The post have rotted &  the "cabled - off"  area  (about 14' x 14')is sagging.  I did take photos & will be glad to share with descendants of this family.

I was very surprised to discover this earlier DAR canvass of this cemetery & to see all the graves listed for it.  I only found three of those they have listed;

Harrell Newton who has the larger obelisk;  Wm. Baker Newton who has the smaller  WOW obelisk;  &  Penelope Newton,  child, with a small headstone.  There was no evidence of other graves or broken headstones, etc.

 There remains a tangled mess of vines, saplings, briars, etc. in grave area, which was not cleared off.

*The marriage dates & spouse names were added by me.
