Hughes Cemetery

Saint Francis County, Arkansas

NOTE from Patricia Hughes Jones

“My great grandfather donated land for the Hughes Cemetery in St. Francis Co, AR.

Don’t know who wrote the story on it, but it was embellished a bit.

The donation of land was not In 1870, have yet to determine the year,

but his father who owned the land had

not died in 1870, so it was later.

Also, the Henderson children, Mary and John, first two people buried in that

cemetery, died of yellow fever. Second, they didn’t ask to

bury them there, because they had no money. They were migrating West and

NEEDED a place to bury their children.”
