Arkansas Cemeteries
WHITE
or SHELBY CEMETERY
(Partial)
Sebastian County, Arkansas
Surveyed by Carolyn
S. Smedley and Myrna F. Wells.
The White/Shelby County Cemetery
is located on Fort Chaffee Property, southeast of Fort Smith, Arkansas. It is off Highway 22, turn 1st entrance
(Gate 19) after passing through the Main Entrance of Fort Chaffee. Turn right at Gate 19, go 9/10 mile, turn
left at second road to left, go exactly 9/10 mile further. The cemetery is
located on the left of this dirt road.
The road is well
rolled. The cemetery is well maintained and fenced all the way, enclosing
the graves. You have to park at the
rear and walk through the double gates.
This is located in Sulphur Springs Township of Sebastian County. It is a very old cemetery, with many Whites,
Shelbys, Taylors and Eslinger tombstones.
Many of the graves are marked with only ledgestone rough rock, hewn to
mark
the top and bottom of the graves.
Some of the stones are large stones,
inscribed with family members' names and dates.
This partial survey will be
completed.
