Wid Taylor’s Gravesite
Submitted by Katrina
Johnson
Wid Taylor
was born in the mid 1800's, he died when he was about 25 years old. He was
killed while returning home from a dance, his horse had apparently gotten
spooked and had thrown him. Enough time had passed by the time they had found
his body that they wrapped him in a wagon tarp and buried him on the exact spot
that he died. He was a great uncle to Virgil Taylor.
If you
take highway 5 out of Benton to highway 9 and at Crows station heading north on
9 about 8 miles, take Unity Road on the left, which is straight across from
highway 298, you stay on Unity Road and you will cross Lee's Creek,
the grave is not very far on your
right after you cross the creek, there use to be a large rock painted and the
grave was located back up behind it.
I plan to
repaint the rock in the near future in case anyone wants to find it.
