"GONE BUT NOT FORGOTTEN"

Transcription done on Feb. 23, 2002

Directions: Going from Fallsville, (Newton County) west on Highway 16 to Red Star (Madison County) turn right on Madison County Road 3605.  Drive right at 1 mile (you will cross over a low water bridge and also a cattle guard) until you come to a "Y" in the road.  There you will see a sign with three cemeteries on it pointing to the right. Follow the road on the right and you will drive about 1.3 miles, and you will see Old Bethel on your left. Go past this cemetery and follow the dirt road. You will see an old, worn down community/church building. You will need to turn on the dirt road to your right there. Park your vehicle there and walk down to the cemetery.  The cemetery is just down the road a bit, not far to walk.

We would not recommend you going to this cemetery during the late spring, summer or early fall, as the snakes will be up, and last year we went to transcribe it in April, and you couldn't see the fence or cemetery for all the brush and grass that was so grown up.  But when we went this time (in February) the grass was cut, and the cemetery looked really nice. So if someone is keeping it up now, it would be okay to go any time of the year, but we've only been out there twice, and so don't know if they keep it up or not.

The road is pretty okay to drive on using a car or a low chasied vehicle, as long as you go slow and pay attention to where you're driving. We went in a pickup just because we weren't sure of the terrain.

Someone has made bronze flat headstones with some kind of "identity" on most of the unmarked graves, so there weren't but just a few rocks without any writing or identity.  Most of everyone out there is "marked" in one way or another.

We are trying to collect as many obits for these people as possible, so if anyone would like to contact us about or to share an obit, we would appreciate it.  I have made an alphabetical listing  before the transcription so you can first see if whomever you're looking for is there. If I found any additional data in my research, I added that in under the transcription in ( ). Anything in  ( ) is just research I found on the internet, so please follow up with it yourself and only use as a guide. We also have headstone pictures for everyone that has a headstone, and we can scan them for anyone who would like to see them. We feel like if we all share with one another then these people's memories will always be.

Thanks, Robert and Rosa
