SNEED CEMETERY

Osage, Carroll County, Arkansas

"Gone But Not Forgotten"

FULLY TRANSCRIBED AND PHOTOGRAPHED ON NOVEMBER 18, 2006

Original Listing typed up on April 25, 2007, Submitted by Rosa Cline

This is a COMPLETE listing of people interred at this cemetery. My husband and I went out and photographed all stones at this cemetery. Below is that data.

I have made an alphabetical listing before the actual transcriptions below. Beside each name I have noted a headstone photo ( hd pic ) for that person. As of April 2007 when I typed this up I have no extra data (obits, pic etc ) of anyone buried at this cemetery. Below the alphebetical listing is the actual transcription of the stones. This listing is in the order in which the photos were taken. So it will kind of give you an idea of stones beside one another. Also under the transcriptions are some online research data I found on the individuals. Please only use the extra data as an outline for your own research. Also I compared our transcription to one done back years ago that was donated to the Carroll County Historical Society and published on their website. After I worked up all the photos I took there were several names listed on their list that I didn’t have a headstone photo for. I have included these names and data at the end of this transcription; but please keep in mind that extra research will be needed to verify these people being buried here as there is no stones for them. And as in any online research you should always verify with other sources.

If you would like me to share with you, or you share extra data please feel free to contact me. However, please have the respect to not contact me to complain when I don’t have what you request. I will be more than happy to share with you what information I have on the people listed below . If you would like to send me data on your family or friends buried at this cemetery, I would be more than happy to accept and add the data into my listings. Please feel free to contact me.

I hope this listing helps these people to always be remembered. To try and help folks to always be remembered when they have gone on before us is the main reason I do what I do. And helping folks find family or friends in the process is a good plus as well.

These two baby graves are side by side with a concrete boarder around the actual graves. The first one I have listed is still standing and has become VERY BLACK but the images look like the stone beside it. Some people have noted from my online search for these babies, other researchers have this baby as being born and died in 1868 but the last line of the stone is readable and is 1869. The second baby’s stone has broken off the base and is laying across where it should be standing. As of Nov 2006 it still is in one piece laying there.

The M.L. Kelly name is on the bottom of the stone away from the dates and data for Lee. It’s also not darken lettering like Lee’s data is. So I don’t know if this is the name of the company of the stonemason, or could be the name of the person that purchased the stone for Lee. But I feel because of the letting and coloring that it’s not part of the actual data for Lee.

Online Research:

Robert E. Lee Denton

I have found in several places where his birth year is anything from 1861, to 1864 however, I believe his stone clearly states 1862

He died in either Washington County or Boone County, AR I found the below death article for him. The person that posted it online has both The Harrison Daily Times and the Fayetteville Democrat sited for the article. Harrison is in Boone County and Fayetteville is in Washington County:

DENTON, Lee - (from The Harrison Times) A sad and fatal accident occurred near the residence of Hon. Tilford Denton in this county on Tuesday last, resulting in the death of his son, Lee. The young man had prepared to go to Carrollton to have some plows sharpened and after starting something frightened a young mule of his team causing a runaway, throwing Lee out and producing such internal injuries that he died the same evening. We deeply sympathize with the parents in their deep affliction. [Fayetteville Democrat 4/10/80]
