Russell County

       Russell County was named for Col. Gilbert C. Russell of Mobile, a military officer in the Creek Wars. The county was created by an act of the Alabama General Assembly on December 18, 1832, from former Creek Indian Territory. The county seat is Phenix City. Other towns in Russell County include Cottonton, Fort Mitchell, Hatchechubbee, Holy Trinity, Hurtsboro, Pittsview, and Seale.
