What's a Look-up?

The idea is the owners of printed material or those with access to various records, volunteer to look up a surname in the book or records they own or have access to. Unfortunately, this may not be fair to the author(s) of the books who have devoted a lot of time and energy to publish. It is NOT our desire to violate anyone's copyright, or deprive them of the means of making a profit from their endeavors. For this reason, USGenWeb has established the following policy on lookups:

USGenWeb Project's Official Policy on Lookups

USGenWeb will not tolerate any copyright violations. Lookup requests should be limited to one name, or perhaps two if it is a married couple. Information given will be minimal, for example if it is a cemetery lookup, the information will be the name of the cemetery and the dates on the headstone. Please do not ask for hardcopies to be mailed; the volunteers have been asked not to comply with such requests.

Our lookups will extend to searching the book to determine if the book would be helpful to you in your research. Should the book prove useful, we can provide the authors address and ordering information.

The USGenWeb Project will endeavor to get a WRITTEN statement from each copyright holder which stipulates which books may be used for lookups.

Having said that, please feel free to request a look-up directly from the following resources. Please limit your request to one name per request. Please put MONTGOMERY COUNTY AL LOOKUP in the subject line of your request to insure the message is not overlooked or accidentally deleted. In the first line of the message please put the name of the book from which you are requesting the lookup.

If you request a lookup, don't forget to thank your volunteer for their time.

IF YOU HAVE ANY SORT OF SPAM BLOCKER FOR YOUR EMAIL ADDRESS, THE RESEARCHER BELOW CANNOT RESPOND IF YOU DO NOT ADD THEM TO YOUR ACCEPTED LIST. PLEASE ADD THEM BEFORE SENDING AN INQUIRY. THANK YOU.

Alabama Cemeteries by Donna J. Booth - this book is about the stories and local legends surrounding certain grave markers. Helen Carter
I am willing to go to cemeteries in and close to Montgomery to take pictures of headstones.  I would also offer to go into the cemetery offices and collect information.  This would be for anyone willing to reimburse me for gas money, meters, or other expenses.  I have a digital camera and could email the pictures directly to the person requesting the pictures.  If the person requesting the pictures would like regular photos, then I would also need the cost of the film, developing, and mailing those photos to them. Thank you. Cheryl Bateman
