Old Texas, Alabama

In the 125th Anniversary Edition of the Monroe Journal, I found the following by Nelle Stinson Smith:

"According to county lore, there was an Andrews man who decided to leave Monroe County and go to Texas where cheap, good land could be purchased or homesteaded.

After being in Texas for a short time, he was dissatisfied and
decided to return home, which is now called Old Texas.

His neighbors and relatives found it amusing that he grew homesick. Some of the men would say, "I think I will go and talk to 'Old Texas' for a short time."  Fairly soon many men were making this remark and since he lived in the area now known as Old Texas, that is the way the community became named."
