Born in Buena Vista, AL on November 5, 1860
Photo probably taken around his wedding on December 15, 1890.
It hung in an oval frame in my parents home when I was growing up.

The last picture was hidden behind his portrait and I do not know who he is.  I believe that he could be John "Jack" Bethea, father of Ausborn Watt Bethea.  Jack was born in Wilcox County in 1821, the son of Jesse Council Bethea and Elizabeth Henry Bethea.

May be Beheas of Monroe/Wilcox County

These two group pictures were hidden in a frame behind his picture and I do not know who they are are when they were taken.  I believe that they are Betheas from the Wilcox/Monroe County line area and are from the 1820-1870 time frame.

A Bit of Family History

Ausborn Watt Bethea

A little history of my family.  My grandfather Ausborn Watt Bethea was born in 1860 and was 38 years on when my father was born in Buena Vista Al in 1898.  My father was 53 years old when I was born in 1951.  My mother passed away when I was 10 years old and my father when I was 16 years old.  My oldest brother and sister have also passed away.  That explains why I have no direct knowledge of who the people in the pictures are.  None of my existing family ever knew there were pictures hidden behind the two known pictures.  My grandparents, Ausborn Watt and Lula Gates Bethea divorced in the early 1900's and my father at the age of 13 assumed the responsibility of caring for his mother until her death in 1950.  The story I have is that at the time of the divorce that the oldest son went with his father and my grandmother never allowed him to visit her after that, even after my grandfather's death in 1926.  I have been told by a cousin that my oldest uncle, the one who left with his father, gave the two pictures to my father after their mother died in 1950.
