William and Elizabeth "Betsy" Browning May came to Lowndes County before 1830. William died in the Benton area and is likely buried in the Mt. Gilead Church Cemetery, Trickem, as he was its first pastor. A DNA study is being done for William and Elizabeth's male descendents. If you are a male descendent of the male line (no daughters for this study, sorry), please go to The MAY Family Reconstruction Project. The goal is to try to determine from which May William is descended, and to truly connect all May families to the correct original immigrant to the New World.
