ALEXANDER, Jeremiah. (Walker Co.) Aged 113 (evidently an error for 71). and a resident of Morgan County; private, Massachusetts Militia State Troops; enrolled on September 17, 1833, under act of Congress of June 7, 1832, payment to date from March 4, 1831; annual allowance, $33.33; sums received to date of publication of list, $83.32.由evolutionary Pension Roll, in Vol. xiv, Sen. Doc. 514, 23rd Cong., 1st sess., 1833-34. He resided in Walker County, June 1, 1840, aged 76. Census of Pensioners, 1841, p. 150.

BAGWELL, Frederick. (Fayette Co.) Revolutionary soldier with the rank of private in the North Carolina Troops. He served from January or February of 1779 until July or August of 1779 in Capts. Tarrant's and Reynolds' Companies, Col. Farmer's Regt., as a substitute for his father, Daniel Bagwell, who was drafted in Wake County, NC. He was in the Battle of Stono. From April 1780 until October 1780, he served under Capts. Lewis Bleecher and Hillsman, Col. Lightly. He was in the Battle of Gates' defeat at Camden. He served other tours which included four times as a substitute, once for his father, once for Jesse Richards, once for Thompson Burch, and for Arthur Pope. He applied for pension on January 20, 1824, under act of June 7, 1832, (W-10-386) as a resident of Fayette County. A pension certificate (No. 5-088) was issued to Mary (Polly) Bagwell, his widow, on December 10, 1851, at the Tuscaloosa, Alabama, agency. In 1840, Bagwell was aged 80 and his annual pension was $50. The last payment of his widow's pension was made on March 10, 1853. He married Polly Hill in North Carolina ca. 1773. They had 7 children.

BAIRD, John. (Fayette Co.) From Act of Alabama, 1842, it states, "Whereas, John Baird has, from his patriotic service during the late war with Great Britain, been disabled from procuring a subsistence by manual labor, and this General Assembly being at all times willing to compensate, as far as it can be properly done, persons who have devoted their body and treasure to the defense of their county: Therefore, That the aforesaid John Baird, be, and he is hereby authorized to hawk and peddle in any county in this State, free and exempt from all charges for licenses which are imposed upon other persons: Provided, that nothing herein contained, shall be construed to authorize the said John Baird to retail spirituous liquors: Approved, February 14, 1843.

BRASHER, John. (Fayette Co.) Revolutionary soldier whose application for pension was suspended in 1833. This meant further information was needed before it could be granted. However, his name is not on the later pension list.

BLACK, David. (Fayette Co.) Resided in Fayette County in 1840 at the age of 80 according to the census of pensioners in 1841.

BLACKBURN, Benjamin. (Tuscaloosa Co.) Age not given, a resident of Tuscaloosa County; private, Lewis's Regiment; date of enrollment not given payment to date from April 1, 1810; annual allowance, $60; sums received, $363.90; transferred from Tennessee from September 4, 1819; or April 24, 1816, rate increased to annual allowance of $96, under which the sum of $1,715.18 received to date of publication of list.由evolutionary Pension Roll, in Vol. xiv, Sen. BLAKELY, Aquilla. (Blount Co.) Aged 94, and a resident of Blount County; private and sergeant, Virginia Militia; enrolled on July 2, 1833, under act of Congress of June 7, 1832, payment to date from March 4, 1831; annual allowance, $35; sums received to date of publication of list $105.由evolutionary Pension Roll, in Part 3, Vol. xiii. BRUTON, Benjamin. (Tuscaloosa Co.) Aged 73, and a resident of Tuscaloosa County; private and sergeant, N.C. Militia; enrolled on April 23, 1833, under act of Congress of June 7, 1832, payment to date from March 4, 1831; annual allowance, $53.33; sums received to date of publication of list, $133.32.由evolutionary Pension Roll, in Vol. xiv, Sen. BUCHANON, William. (Fayette Co.) Revolutionary solder whose pension was suspended in 1833.

CLARK, THOMAS. (Tuscaloosa Co.) Aged 79, and a resident of Tuscaloosa County; private, N.C. Militia; enrolled on September 26, 1833, under act of Congress of June 7, 1832, payment to date from March 4, 1831; annual allowance, $60; sums received to date of publication of list, $180.由evolutionary Pension Roll, in Vol. xiv, Sen. CLEMENTS, CULLIVER. (Tuscaloosa Co.) The paternal grandfather of Dr. B. F. Wilson, also came from Tennessee to Tuscaloosa with his son William, in 1818, and there died, over thirty years ago. His maternal grandfather, Culliver Clements, came from Georgia to Tuscaloosa, in 1818, and to Pickens County the next year, settled the place where now lives John L. Guyton, and subsequently removed to the present residence of Dudly Pruitt, where he died in 1840. Jesse Clements was his son. Both these ancestors were soldiers of the Revolution邑ilson was at Guilford Courthouse battle; Clements was a South Carolina partisan soldier, in the trying times of Marion and his whig comrades. The descent is said to be Scotch-Irish on both sides. Smith, History of Pickens County, pp. 241-42.

COOK, Reuben. (Fayette Co.) Revolutionary soldier, private in the North Carolina Militia. He was a resident of Fayette County in 1840 when he was aged 80. His annual allowance was $36.66. He applied for a pension and was placed on the pension roll, November 15, 1833, when he was about 74 years of age.

CRANE, MAYFIELD. (Pickens Co.) Aged 67, and a resident of Pickens County; private, S.C. State Troops; enrolled on April 13, 1834, under act of Congress of June 7, 1832, payment to date from March 4, 1831; annual allowance, $80.由evolutionary Pension Roll, in Vol. xiv, Sen. CUNNINGHAM, Robert. (Tuscaloosa Co.) Aged 73, and a resident of Tuscaloosa County; private and sergeant, N.C. DOYLE, EDWARD. (Blount Co.) Aged 76, and a resident of Blount County; private, S.C. ELLIOTT, ELIZABETH KNOX. (Tuscaloosa Co.) (1750-1852) A patriot (in S.C.) during the Revolution, molded bullets, provided clothing and carried messages for the soldiers. She was born in Ireland; died in (Moundville), Tuscaloosa County, Alabama.--DAR Lineage Book, Vol. 126, page 65.

FAIR, BARNABAS, (Tuscaloosa Co.) Aged 76, and a resident of Tuscaloosa County; private, N.C. FILES, JEREMIAH. (Blount Co.) Aged 70, and a resident of Blount County; private, S.C. GEESLIN, CHARLES. (Tuscaloosa Co.) (Geesling in the census list). aged 90, and a resident of Tuscaloosa County; private, N.C. Continental Line; enrolled on April 8, 1825, under act of Congress of March 18, 1818, payment to date from August 17, 1824; annual allowance, $96; sums received to date of publication of list, $916.93. GILLESPIE, JAMES. (Pickens Co.) Private, particular service not shown; date of enrollment not given, payment dates from September 4, 1833; annual allowance, $80. Pension Book, State Branch Bank, Mobile. He resided in Pickens County, with John O. Gillespie, aged 78 years, June 1, 1840. Census of Pensioners 184l, p. 149.

GLAZE, THOMAS. (Fayette Co.) Aged 89, resided in Fayette County, June 1, 1840. Census of Pensioners, 1841, p. 148.

GRANT, JEREMIAH. (Tuscaloosa Co.) Age not given, a resident of Tuscaloosa County; private, 6th Regular U. S. Infantry; enrolled on July 12, 1822, payment to date from April 12, 1820; annual allowance. $96; Acts Military establishment.由evolutionary Pension Roll, in Vol. xiv, Sen. GUESS, Benjamin. (Fayette Co.) At age 77, he was a resident of Fayette County in 1840, living with Jesse Howard, age 83. Guess was a private in the North Carolina Militia and drew an annual pension of $66.66.

HARDIN, JOSEPH.  (Tuscaloosa Co.) Aged 74, and a resident of Tuscaloosa County; private, N.C. Militia; enrolled on October 29, 1833, under act of Congress of June 7, 1832, payment to date from March 4, 1831; annual allowance, $26.66; sums received to date of publication of list, $79.98. HARPER, THOMAS. (Pickens Co.) HENRY, JAMES. (Tuscaloosa Co.) HOGG, THOMAS. (Tuscaloosa Co.) 輸 person by the name of Thomas Hog received a Revolutionary claim in South Carolina. (Salley's Stub Entries to Indents for Revolutionary Claims. R-T, p. 264) Thomas Hogg, of Newberry District, S.C., married Martha Chandler, daughter of John Chandler, of this district. After their marriage they moved into Greene or Wilkes County, Ga. where their first child, Joseph Lewis Hogg, was born. Shortly after they removed to Tuscaloosa County, Ala., where Thomas Hogg served in the State Senate, 1819-1820. Besides Joseph Lewis Hogg there were two other sons, Thomas Hogg and Stephen Hogg.悠nformation from Miss Maud M. Kelly, Birmingham, Ala.

HOLLAND, CHARLES. (Tuscaloosa Co.) Aged 76, and a resident of Tuscaloosa County; private, S.C. INGE, RICHARD. (Tuscaloosa Co.) He was born in King and Queen County, Virginia, 1754, died August 13, 1833. A Revolutionary soldier, Member of the Legislature, 1825. Greenwood Cemetery, Tuscaloosa, Ala.

 

JOHNSON, JOHN. (Pickens Co.) A resident of Pickens County; private particular service not shown; enrolled on August 1, 1836, under act of Congress of June 7, 1832, payment to date from March 4, 1831; annual allowance, $30.66. Pension Book, State Branch Bank, Mobile.

 

JONES, FREEMAN. (Pickens Co.) Aged 71, and a resident of Pickens County; private, Virginia Continental Line; enrolled on August 12, 1833, under act of Congress of June 7, 1832, payment to date from March 4, 1831; annual allowance, $60; sums received to date of publication of list, $180.--Revolutionary Pension Roll, in Vol. xiv, Sen. JONES, THOMAS C. (Blount Co.) Aged 69, and a resident of Blount County; private, S.C. Militia; enrolled on April 8, 1833, under act of Congress of June 7, 1832, payment to date from March 4, 1831; annual allowance, $64.16; sums received to date of publication of list, $192.48.由evolutionary Pension Roll, in Part 3, Vol. xiii, Sen. KING, Parks. (Fayette Co.) Revolutionary soldier whose application for a pension was denied because he had served less than six months.

LANDSDALE, Isaac. (Fayette Co.) He was born in Montgomery County, but in 1840, he was living in Fayette County. He was 80 at this time and head of the household where he resided according to the census records. His annual pension was $80.

LOOKINGBILL, Daniel. (Fayette Co.) He was originally a resident of Dallas County, but retired in Fayette County. He was a private in the 14th U.S. Regulars and his annual allowance was $80.

MAY, Thomas. (Fayette Co.) Revolutionary soldier who was not eligible for a pension in 1834 because his service was not military.

MORROW, Samuel. (Fayette Co.) Revolutionary soldier, a private in the South Carolina Continental Line. His annual allowance was $45.77. He was a resident of Fayette County in 1835, when he was aged 88. He was placed on the pension roll in 1831.

MORGAN, John. (Fayette Co.) Revolutionary soldier, private in the North Carolina Militia. He was a resident of Fayette county in 1834 when he was aged 71. He was placed on the pension roll in 1831 with an annual pension of $60.

OLIVE, Jesse (Fayette Co.) Revolutionary patriot from Raleigh (Wake Co.), North Carolina, was the son of Revolutionary patriot, James Olive. He was married to Monicah Massey, daughter of Revolutionary patriot, Richard Massey, all of North Carolina. These patriots are on the DAR roll and listed the in Patriot Index. It is believed that Jesse Olive died in the portion of Tuscaloosa that is now Fayette County and is probably buried near his son Richard Calvin Olive in a cemetery just to the right of the Highway going into Berry, Alabama from Highway 43 at Berry Junction.
POE, James. (Fayette Co.) Major James Poe moved from the Carolinas in his old age with his son, Simon. They located at Newtonville in Fayette County. He is buried in Tuscaloosa County.

REED, John. (Fayette Co.) Revolutionary soldier and private in the North Carolina Militia. He was a resident of Fayette county in 1834 when he was aged 82. His annual allowance was $30. He was placed on the pension roll in 1831.

RIGGS, James. (Fayette Co.) Revolutionary soldier who was ineligible for pension in 1832 because he had served less than six months.

ROWSEY, Edward. (Fayette Co.) Revolutionary soldier who was a private in the Virginia Militia. He was a resident of Fayette County in 1834 when he was aged 71. His annual allowance was $20.

SHUMAKER, Harmon. (Fayette Co.) Revolutionary soldier who was a private in the Maryland Militia. He was a resident of Fayette County about 1834 at the age of 73. His annual allowance was $40.

STOREY, Henry. (Fayette Co.) Revolutionary soldier born in South Carolina in 1756. He was placed on the pension roll in Fayette County in 1831 and drew pensions here. He died in Greene County in 1836.

STRONG, Johnson. (Fayette Co.) Revolutionary soldier who was a private in the Virginia Militia. His rank was "Artificer." He was a resident of Fayette County in 1840 when he was aged 82. He was probably a blacksmith. He was placed on the pension roll in 1831 and drew an annual allowance of $33.

TUCKER, George. (Fayette Co.) Revolutionary soldier who was a private in the North Carolina Continental Line. He was a resident in Fayette County in 1837 at age 89. His annual allowance was $46.66.
