July 16, 1833 at Lawrence County, James Aston aged 78 years, makes declaration, that he entered service November 1775
Under Colonel Rutherford at Rowan County, North Carolina, where he resided. This first service of 3 months was mostly pursuing 
and tehn moving Tory prisoners. He was then for a few months in scouting parties and continued in service about 18 months. He
was at the battles of Cowans Ford in South Carolina when General Davidson was killed. He was stationed some time at Camden,
South Carolina. Also in various other fights. He knew Colonel Washington, Col. Davy and Gen. Green. His brother, Alexander Aston 
will testify for him.
He was born in Rowan County, North Carolina and lived there until the Fall of 1826 when he came to Lawrence County, Alabama

Power of attorney July 15, 1854 by John Aston, son of James Aston, who died January 8, 1836 appoints attorney in Washington
to press pension claims. John Aston living in Lawrence County, Alabama.
North Carolina Official states that name of James Aston was not found on any Revolutionary War record in North Carolina.
