I would like to make
connection with people who share the
Payne/Farley/Garrison/Stanley surnames. I am descended from
Berry Payne who married Mary Farley. They came to Lawrence
County from Blount and Jefferson Counties around 1860. One
of their sons Andrew Jackson Payne married the daughter of James
Satnley and another of their sons George W. Payne married the
daughter of Dennis Garrison. They lived in the Mountain
Home area of Lawrence County. [email protected]

SMITH
April
2006
On the 1860 census the family of Henry & Margret Smith is
listed for Moulton, AL. It includes a son, Calvin, age
4. I am attempting to determine if this is my
g-g-grandfather's family. My g-grandfather's name was
Calvin Smith. He was born in GA in the mid 1850's.
His father died during the time of the Civil War. As a
young man he lived in Cherokee Co, AL. That's all we know
of his early years. The
apparently widowed Margaret is found in Calhoun Co, Al, in 1870
and as Margaret Lewis in Floyd Co, GA, in 1880. Her son,
Calvin, remained with her in 1880. This is the best lead I have found to date,
and I would appreciate any information. Thanks, Carol Wilson

I am looking for a Joseph Linn Gray who was a Constable for
Russellville in the early 1820s and later in Moulton in the late
1830s. I know he was on the 1850 census but not on the 1860
which I understand was not a compete census. One of his
sons was Greenberry. He made it through the 1870 census and
in 1880 his wife was living with one of their sons by the name of
James Richard Gray. If anybody has any information on these
two I would be greatly appreciative. Larry Gray

At one time, the Bible was in the possession of Frank McMillan, a

Rheasha Walden 1835. (Rheasha Walden was brother of Sarah Walden,
wife of Abram Fulkerson McMillan.) Does anyone know the

I am looking for
information about the Wallace Cemetary in the Bankhead Forest. I
know that no one has tried to record who is buried there. The
road down to the old Jack McDowell place is gated and I don't
know who might have a key. I went to this cemetary about 50 years
ago and it was poorly tended and grown over then. I know that I
have ancestors there. Any information would be appreciated.
