I am looking
for details of this murder case. All the time I was growing up, I
was told Fred Ashford was killed in a duel or that his horse just
came walking home with him on it, dead. I'd like to know
what happened. Does anybody have an account of this? or
letters? anything...

shot and killed Fred ASHFORD in Courtland a few days ago, has had
his preliminary trial and was bound over in a bond of $2,000 to

James Lemuel Daniel married Sarah Jane
Brown. Had the following six
children: Itaska Lela Ada Daniel; Sarah
Katherine Daniel; Martha Booker Daniel; Walter
Woodson Daniel; Giles Ambrose Daniel; and Nettie Bell
Lydell Daniel (b. 1894 - Nettie was the baby of the
family). James Lemuel Daniel and Sarah
Jane Brown (Daniel) died within a month of each other, apparently
of pneumonia. Nettie was a young child at that
time. Am looking for any further information on James &

According to the 1930 census, John R. and
Sadie Mathews, ages 46 (should be 41?) and 35, respectively, were
residing at Household 246/253 in Precinct #7 of Lawrence County,
Alabama along with their children: Julia age 16, Lula age
14, Herman age 12, Hubert age 7, and Dorothy age 4. Another
daughter, Cletie born about 1913 was no longer in the
household. John R. Mathews is believed to have been born in
1889 to Enick Houston Mathews and Mary E. Franklin Mathews
at Westpoint, Lawrence County, Tennessee. Anyone

Does anyone have any
information on the burial site of Joseph M Tweedy d1857,Joseph MM
tweedy(son), and Mary Martin Tweedy(wife) d1833? They lived in
Limestone County untill 1842 (was JP there) when they moved
to Lawrence County. Joseph M and his son Joseph MM both died near
Courtland but are not buried in the Courtland Cemetery. Thank you

the 1820s, then continued on to Saline County,

show their marriage.

My great-great grandmother was Emiline Cooper, and she was the
first wife of James Madison Gray (1817-1880). In the
cemetery where James Madison Gray is buried is the grave of Noah
Cooper (1803-1875). Does anyone know whether Noah Cooper is
the father of Emiline Cooper? Emiline would have died in
approximately 1846, so she missed the 1850 census. Her grave has

Thurmond, Alexander's wife was Sarah (Sallie) MORGAN, b. Franklin
Co. TN. dau. of Isaac Morgan & Unknown. Alexander moved
with his family to Lawrence Co. AL before 1870 Census. The family
appears on the 1870 Lawrence Co. AL Census.
Other children are: Martha M. b. 1831; James Henry
"Tennessee Jim" b. 1833; Terrell Melvine or Melvina, b.
1835;
Rachael C. b. 1840; Patsey, b. 1846; and Lola, b. 1845. Alexander
HEFLIN & Sallie's daughter, Julia Ann HEFLIN, is my
g-grandmother. She married H. C. JOHNSTON, son of Samuel
Pinkney JOHNSTON & Sarah Ann BELL, in Moulten, AL on 25 Dec
1865 at the home of her father Alexander, with her brother James
H. Heflin as bondsman. My g-grandparents, H. C. and Julia
Ann (HEFLIN) JOHNSTON appear on the 1870 & 1880 Census for
Lawrence Co. AL. They moved to Hardin Co. TN then to
Tishomingo Co. MS where Julia Ann died 16 Aug 1918. Within
the family it is said her body was shipped back to AL to be
buried with her parents, but I can find no record of that.
I do not know where she is buried, nor her parents. They
lived at Courtland. Would love to find her burial place,
and her parents too.
H. C. JOHNSTON is buried in Tishomingo Co. MS, he died 1930.Any
help on this family will be greatly appreciated.
