BOWLING May 2002
I found Hudson Bowling in a marriage record and then had it verified by a volunteer of the
county, It was first recorded as Henderson Bowlingm abd then the right under it was a
correction of Hudson Bowling. I have checked with the Alexander Bowling and Preston Bowling
descendants, but, they don;t have anone in their genealogy with that name. Then I wondered
if the woods Family lived there, and Hudson somewhere else.
Hudson M. Bowling married Mary E. Woods on Aug.18,1870 in Lawrence Co., Ala. Full names are
Hudson Marion Bowling, and Mary (Mattie) Elizabeth Woods.
Any help will be greatly appreciated. Mary Beckham

NORTON,THRASHER June 2002
I am searching for any information on the family of my great-grandmother Dora Isabella NORTON,
who was born 5/3/1869 in Ala, and married George Lewis THRASHER on 3/13/1887in Lawrence Co., Al
Their marriage license gives their names as G.L. Thrasher and Miss M.E. Norton. They had five
children: George Thomas, Annie Genaver, William Merty, James Flur, and Newton Columbus
(my grandfather). Dora died on 5/10/1939 and Lewis died 10/10/1945. They died and are buried
in Morgan Co., Ala.In the 1920 Morgan Co., Ala census, Dora's father's name is given as William
NORTON ( a widower, age 72, living with Dora). Dora's death certificate gives her mother's name
as Adline KING, but gives her father's name as J.T. Norton. I found a Dora I. Norton, are 10
in the 1880 census, living with her parents John T. & Matilda E. Norton in Winston Co., Al with
four younger siblings: Charles K. (8), Martha (6), Alsey (4), & Hulda (2).I also have a copy
of a land transfer (dated 7/20/1893) with J.T. & Matilda A. Norton giving land to the trustees
of a church at Liberty Grove (in Lawrence Co., Ala). One of those trustees was G.W. Thrasher
who was the founder and first preacher of that church as well as the father of my
George Lewis Thrasher. This document was attested to bt T.O. Thrasher (another of G.W.'s sons)
and J.M. Norton. According to land records this is part of the property of John T. Norton.
I am convinced that John T. & Matilda are Dora's parents, but haven't been able to prove that
conclusively in part due to the differences in names found in cariouis records. I have been
unable to find any other records as of yet. Ihave been told by another Thasher researcher
that the Norton;s migrated from Randolph Co., Ala, along with the Thrasher's.
Any help, suggestions, or possible leads will be greatly appreciated greatly.

Lynch, McClendon, McClellan, Horton Sept. 2002
Trying to find the maiden name of my g-grandmother, Maggie E. Lynch, along with the names of
her parents. She married Napthali Horatio Lynch in Lawrence Co., Ala on May 25, 1884. They
marriage listing from the Lawrence Co., USGenweb page has her name listed as McClellan, but
the family members think that it is McClendon, which is the listing on my gf's (her son) death
certificate. We've also found evidence that she may have been married one before and that her
maiden name may have been Horton, and that she might have had a married name of
McClendon/McClellan- or vise-versa. She was born in Alabama ( County uncertain) on
October 22, 1863. She and my grea-grandfather moved to Texas between 1893 and 1894, where she
Died in 1923. My great-grandfather N.H. Lynch was the 3rd son of Darius Lynch and Nancy Gibson.
I have good info on Nancy, but am not sure about Darius's parents. I'm pretty sure that his
father was Thomas Lynch of Limestone Co., Ala. Want to find out if Darius was married once
before Nancy and what his mother's name was, along with confirmation that his father's name
was Thomas. I know that he was born in Tennessee in 1809 and moved to Alabama by 1830.
He moved to Lawrence in 1830's, and died in Moulton in 1898. He was a merchant and became
involved in local politics after the Civil War. The 1870 cenus lists his occupation as Mayor,
presumably of Moulton. If anyone has info on these matters, please contact me.

I am researching the PARNELL family in Lawrence Co. Joshua Parnell came to Lawrence Co.
between 1843 -1850. He was in the 1850 and 1860 census. His second wife Louisa Hill was in
the 1870 & 1880 census. In 1840 census I believe that he was in Franklin CO., Tenn, with his
first wife Nancy, and married Louisa there in 1843. He had 8 children with Nancy. They were
Jane, Eliza, Laurena, Sarah, Susan, James (could be J.H.), Catherine, and another daughter.
By Louisa he as Wm. Malcolm ( my husband's GGgrandfather), Nancy J, & Mary. I am interested in
ANY info on any member of this family. I especially would love to know the parents of Joshua
& Louisa, and 1st wife Nancy's surname.

AGEE November 2002
My great grandmother was Mary Agee, she was raised by neigbors as were her siblings after her
parents death (this is what she told my grandmother) I  cannot find any information on these
people at all.  If you have anything it would be greatly appreciated.  I thought I found a
Nancy Agee listed alone in a census, no children were listed with her.  She was born in 1825
in TN.

McKINNEY November 2002

I am researching my ancestor, J. W. McKinney, who is recorded in family
folklore as having "died in the Battle of New Orleans". You may be aware that none of the
names of the six men who died in that battle are known by the National Parks group at New
Orleans.  So if we can identify that J. W. McKinney did die in that battle that would be a
significant discovery. The son of J. W. McKinney is a Lynch McKinney b1795 who married
Susannah Wade b1805.  This is recorded in 1 Bef. 1820 Lawrence, Alabama.
Oldhuntsville.com/p581.htm identifies a Lynch McKinney and John McKinney in the 16th Reg.
(Burris's) of Mississippi Militia. After in War, Lynch McKinney apparently received land as a
veteran, in McDonough County, Illinois were his children were born. Any data that you can
direct me toward with the goal of identifying J. W. McKinney would be greatly appreciated.

LANDERS November 2002

I am looking for information about the LANDERS family of Landersville.  My great-grandparents were Robert H. Landers b.1850 and Laura Anna Sandlin.  Robert's parents were Luther P. Landers b. 1826 and his first wife, Nancy Elkins. I believe that Luther was the son of John Landers, postmaster of Landersville, after whom the town was named.  John died in 1859, and evidently the records of that period, including his will, were destroyed.  So I am having trouble proving the relationship.  I would appreciate any help.   I have quite a bit of information on Luther's and Robert's families that I would be happy to share.  Also, will someone please tell me if Landersville still exists as a town?  Thanks. Margot Brisbin

BRAGG November 2002

WILSON, NESMITH, WOODALL & (perhaps)CROSBY? November 2002

Abraham/Abram Wilson/Willson found on the 1870 Morgan Co, AL census. If the information is correct, Abe was born ca 1850-1852 somewhere in GA. First found on this census living in the home of a Mary Woodall, age 33, born SC. No known connection to Mary Woodall at this time. No others shown in Mary's household.

Abe married Sarah Jane Nesmith in Lawrence Co, AL in Oct of 1870. Sarah Jane was d/o Robert Martin Nesmith (born 1807, d. Crow, Lawrence Co, AL on April 23, 1896), and Sarah M. Woodall Nesmith (born 1816, probably in
Jasper Co, GA), buried in Liberty Hill Cemetery. Sarah M. Woodall Nesmith was the d/o Zephaniah Woodall and Lavinia Vest. Zeph and brother, John Woodall, moved their families from Milledgeville, GA to AL territory ca 1817.

How or when Abram Wilson left GA and came to AL is unknown. Also unknown is the identity of his parents, his siblings or any of his earlier ancestors. Believed they may have been in NC and/or SC at some point. I feel that by 1870, his parents may have been deceased.

The 1870 Morgan Co, AL census also shows a Sarah Crosby and 9 month old infant son, James W. Crosby living next door to Abe and Mary Woodall. I have a copy of a marriage document authorizing permission for Abe's marriage signed by S. E. Crosby and H. H. or H. W. Crosby. I theorize that this S. E. Crosby may be the same as the Sarah Crosby living next
door to Abram. Sarah Crosby is not found in AL in 1880 but there is a Hugh W. Crosby, wife Sarah and son, James W., age 11, found in Seminole, Chattooga Co, GA on the 1880 census. Wondering if this could be the same people? Could Sarah be S. E.? Could Sarah and Abe be siblings?

Abraham/Abram (Abe) Wilson is either dead by 1874 or, as some speculate, he has left  Morgan County for parts unknown. After he disappeared in the Spring of 1874, his wife and new-born son  never heard from him again. If he died, his body was never found. It may be possible that he just left his family and settled someplace else and started a new life. Maybe with a new wife and children??
ANY information, no matter how little, would be greatly appreciated.
Paula
