Thomas Samuel "Tom" Pointer son of Philip Wade Pointer enlisted on 7 Aug 1861 in the 16th Al Inf.
Tom was born in 1839 near Courtland. His rank in was sergeant. He made 2nd lieut 1 May 1862. He
resigned his commission 16 Aug 1864. He was taken prisoner in Lawrence Co 30 Dec 1864 and sent
ultimately to Fort Delaware DE where he was released on 17 Jun 1865 after taking the Oath to the US.
In Nov 1874 he married Betsy Foster d/o Ephraim Foster II and Susan Watkins. Photos of him appear
