Gray
The charcoal portrait shows
William Gray (1843-1920) when he joined the Confederate Army in
August 1861 at Courtland, AL. He served with the l6th Alabama
Infantry Regiment throughout the war, until he was shot at the
Battle of Peachtree Creek near Atlanta. He went home on
furlough and missed the battles of Franklin and Nashville, when
the l6th Ala. Regiment was destroyed.
