He married JANE SINAI ELGIN October 08, 1816 in Jesamine County, Kentucky, daughter of HEZEKIAH ELGIN and SINAI BURRUS. She was born January 10, 1797 in Charles County, Maryland (mom) KY?, and died September 11, 1861 in Lawrence County, Alabama.

Rothrock. David was an educator in Tenn.
In 1847 he helped organize Union
University of Murfreesboro, Tenn. Two of
his students were the brothers of
Lucella ( as she was called), that is how
they met.

During the Civli War, Alva Elgin raised and equipped an infantry, which became Company C, the 35th Alabama Infantry at his own expense. He attained rank of Leutenant-Colonel.
He was elected to the state legislature in 1866.
