Daughter of Nicholas Grimes Sr., of Fairfax and Loudon Counties Virginia, married Phillip
Trammell of the sane place. She married before the death of her father. He gave her a very
fine mare when she married, and named her in his will, I had the opportunity to do extended
research work for one of the decendants of this couple several years ago. This developed
into one of the most interesting stories of the period just following the Revolutionary War
and the Opening up of the territory of Southern Illinois. Records in so many differnt archives
in Washington were examined as we followed Jemima ( Grimes ) Trammell on the horse given
her by her father. She and her Husband died testate at Shawneetown, Illinois.
He was U.S. Gov't agent in charge of the salt mines in Saline Co.. Before that they had been
in Georgia a very short time, then in Christian Co., Kentucky, and then to Illinois.
Jemina went the whole way and survived her husband. Their son Nicholas Trammell was killed
by Indians in Summer Co., Tennessee, and their grandson cut the road to Arkansas from Kentucky
and from Arkansas to Texas.
