    Elmore County Lookups

    Volunteers needed

If you have documents, cd's or books that relate to Elmore County and are willing do lookups, please email the Elmore County Coordinator, Maggie Stewart. This provides a most helpful service and allows you to make "your gift back" to the Internet genealogy world.

If you request that a lookup be made for you:

    • Please note what the volunteer has said that he or she is willing to do. Don't ask for anything else.
    • Please be very specific what you are asking. It is impossible to do lookups on a "you-know-what-I-mean" basis.
    • Please remember that you are making the request of a volunteer who is generously providing this free service, and who is not obligated to you in any fashion.
    • Do the "Barney thing" and be sure to say "Thank you!". This is a volunteer's only reward.

    What's a Look-up?

The idea is the owners of printed material or those with access to variousrecords, volunteer to look up a surname in thebook or records they own or have access to. Unfortunately, this may notbe fair to the author(s) of the books who have devoted a lot of time andenergy to publish. It is NOT our desire to violate anyone's copyright,or deprive them of the means of making a profit from their endeavors. Forthis reason, USGenWeb has established the following policy on lookups:

    USGenWeb's Official Policy on Lookups

USGenWeb will not tolerate any copyright violations. Lookup requestsshould be limited to one name, or perhaps two if it is a married couple.Information given will be minimal, for example if it is a cemetery lookup, the information will be the name of the cemetery and the dates on the headstone. Please do not ask for hardcopies to be mailed; the volunteers have beenasked not to comply with such requests.

Our lookups will extend to searching the book to determine if thebook would be helpful to you in your research. Should the book prove useful,we can provide the authors address and ordering information.

The USGenWeb Project will endeavor to get a WRITTEN statementfrom each copyright holder which stipulates which books may be used forlookups.

Having said that, please feel free to requesta look-up directly from the following resources. Please limit your requestto one name per request. Please put ELMORE COUNTY LOOKUP in thesubject line of your request to insure the message is not overlooked oraccidentally deleted. In the first line of the message please put the nameof the book from which you are requesting the lookup.

If you request a lookup, don't forget to thank your volunteer for theirtime.

It is alway a good idea to tell the volunteer where you learned of their offer.
