Some Civil War veterans eventually lived the last part of their lives in the Mountain Creek Soldiers Home in Chilton County, Alabama. A list of some of its residents from 1901 to October 1933 can be found by clicking here.
Confederate Memorial Park is located in Southeast Chilton County and is administered by the Alabama Historical Commission. Confederate Memorial Park was the site of Alabama's only Confederate veterans home (Mountain Creek Soldiers Home). The facility was in operation from 1902 to 1939 for the care of elderly veterans and their wives and widows. Of the many hundreds who resided at the facility, 313 were buried in one of the two cemeteries located at this site. Cemetery #1 is the original cemetery, and was used from 1902 to 1911, when Cemetery #2 was opened.

RAMAGE, Burr (Sergeant, Company H, 46th Alabama Infantry Regiment) born November 14, 1841 in Chambers, County between West Point and Lafayette and died January 7, 1936 in Brundidge Pike County Alabama the son of Carolina and Benjamin Ramage, who were natives of Newberry District, South Carolina. In this family were five sons and three daughters, Mr. Burr Ramage being the second child. Burrs brothers and sisters were: Dollie Ramage (1856-1916); Robert Ramage; Mack Ramage; Simeon Ramage; James Ramage (1849-1888); Joannah Ramage who married John Smith and Mary Ramage (1843-1931) married Alexander B. McDowell. When he was 12 years old his parents moved from Chambers County to Pike and settled near Brundidge, where the children received a common school education. Early in 1862 Mr. Ramage enlisted in the 46th Alabama Infantry, spending his first night as a soldier in Orion, Alabama. Soon the 46th joined Kirby Smiths Army at Chattanooga. The first battle in which he participated occurred at Tazewell, Tennessee. He was in the Kentucky campaign and the siege of Vicksburg where he was captured, after which he was paroled and came home, remaining about three months. Then he rejoined his regiment at Demopolis, Alabama, later joining Braggs Army at Chattanooga. He served all through the Atlanta campaign and back to Nashville with Hood. After the battle of Nashville, in which he took an active part. The 46th retreated to Alabama, and afterwards joined Johnston in North Carolina, fighting at Bentonville, the last battle of the Army. He surrendered at Salisbury, North Carolina while on detailed service. At Vicksburg he was wounded and had to be placed on the disability list for a month. When the War was closed Mr. Ramage returned to his home to resume farming. On January 10, 1877 he married Nancy Ann (Nannie), the daughter of Eldridge and Annie Lockhart, a pioneer settlers of Pike County. By perseverance and economy this young couple acquired 820 acres of the best land in Pike County. His family consisted of three daughters, Pearl wife of Sam Reeves, Annie wife of Alex Parks, Laura wife of Howell Leverette: two sons, J. T. Ramage and O. K. Ramage (Kyle). (There are now 11 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren) Twenty-seven years ago Mr. and Mrs. Ramage retired from their farm life and moved to Brundidge. When they had been married 58 years she passed away. Mr. Ramage has always been an ardent prohibitionist, a courageous politician, and an undaunted leader in civic and religious affairs. In every great issue he has carefully considered the principle involved before forming his opinion. After his opinion was formed it became a conviction, even though the whole world opposed him. Seventy years ago Mr. Ramage was ordained a deacon in the Baptist Church. It was in this capacity that he rendered the most unselfish and untiring service that could be expected of anyone. After an illness of several days he went to his reward Tuesday morning at 7:21 oclock. With his passing not only does the family sustain a great loss, but the entire community, for his strong personality has made and indelible impression upon the citizenship of Brundidge. Funeral For Burr Ramage Held Today Funeral services for Burr Ramage, age 94, one of Pike Countys oldest and most respected citizens, was held from the Baptist Church in Brundidge this (Wednesday) afternoon at 2:00 oclock. The Rev. W. T. Mims, pastor of the church conducted the services, assisted by Revs. W. C. Henson and J. B. Tate. The remains were laid to rest in Brundidge Cemetery, with Jackson, Haisten & Co., in charge. Grandsons of the deceased were active pallbearers and Deacons of the Brundidge Baptist Church were honorary pallbearers. Sources: Troy Messenger January 8, 1936
