Eugene J Harney of Scranton died Weds at home. His wife, the former Helen McDonnell, died in 1988. Born in Dunmore, he was the son of the late Edward W & Johanna Connerton Harney. He was a graduate of Dunmore High School and attended Bloomsburg Teachers College. Prior to his retirement he was a revenue officer for the IRS and was employed by the city of Scranton as a field auditor in the Wage Tax office. He was an army veteran and served as a captain in WWII in the Pacific Theater. Later he retired as a colonel in the US Army Reserves. He was a member of the Retired Officers Assoc, the VFW, and the American Legion posts in Dunmore. He was a member of St Clare's Church and its All Seasons Club. Surviving are a son, Timothy Harney, Hershey, and a grandson. He was preceded in death by a brother, Edward; and three sisters, Anna, Catherine, and Mary. The funeral will be Sat from the Albert P O'Donnell Funeral Home, 2025 Green Ridge St, Dunmore, with mass at 9:30 in St Clare's Church, 2301 N Washington Ave. Interment, Cathedral Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the St Joseph Center, Adams Ave, Dunmore.

Helen McDonnell Harney, 2008 N Washington Ave, died Sat in Allied Services. She was the wife of Eugene J Harney. Born in Dunmore, daughter of the late Anthony and Bridget Hennigan McDonnell, she graduated from Dunmore High School. Prior to her marriage, she was employed by Eschenbach & Rogers Motor Lines. She was a member of St Clare's Church, Scranton, and its Men's and Women's societies. Also surviving are a son, Timothy Harney, Hummelstown, PA; a grandson; nieces and nephews. The funeral will be Tuesday from the Albert P O'Donnell Funeral Home, 2025 Green Ridge St, Dunmore, with mass at 9:30 am in St Clare's Church. Interment, Cathedral Cemetery.

Johanna Harney, 507 Meade St, Dunmore, daughter of the late M/M Maurice Harney, died today in Moses Taylor Hospital. St Mary's Church, Dunmore & its Blessed Virgin Sodality. Survived by 2 brothers, John of Newark NJ & Edward of Dunmore; 3 sisters, Mrs Margaret Cawley of Scranton, Mrs Gerald Foley of Pocono Summit & Mrs Esther Gribbin of Dunmore.

Mon 1 Apr 1940; funeral was this morning from the home of her sister, Mrs Esther Gribbin, 507 Meade St, Dunmore; St Mary's Church, St Catherine's Cemetery, Moscow. PB: Gerald Ruane, James Kelly, Edward Harney, David Foley, Joseph Cawley, Francis Gribbin.
