Thomas J Corcoran

Thomas Joseph Corcoran, who is manager of the Casey Drug Store, is among the prominent young men of Scranton. He was born at Dunmore, PA, 20 Nov 1896, the son of Dominick and Bridget (Timlin) Corcoran.

Both Dominick Corcoran and his wife were born in Ireland. Their marriage took place in Scranton, where Mr Corcoran was employed in the Lackawanna Steel Mills. He later removed to Dunmore, where he was associated in business with a cousin, John Corcoran. He became owner of a store, which he successfully operated for fifteen years. Mr Corcoran died in 1921, and is buried at Dunmore. He was a Democrat, a member of St Mary's Catholic Church, and belonged to the Ancient Order of Hibernians. Three children were born to Mr and Mrs Corcoran: Mary, widow of P J Kane, lives at Dunmore; Catherine, lives at Dunmore; and Thomas Joseph, the subject of this sketch.

After attending the public schools of Dunmore, Thomas Joseph Corcoran was graduated from Dunmore High School in 1915. He began his business career as a clerk in the employ of the Delaware, Lackawanna & Western Railroad. In 1919 he entered Temple University, from which he was graduated in 1921, with the degree of Ph G. He has since been identified wiht the Casey Drug Store, which is operated in connection with the Hotel Casey. He has served as store manager since 1924.

In 1920 Mr Corcoran was united in marraige with Miss Margaret Scott, the daughter of John J and Catherine (Finnerty) Scott. Mr Scott was a hotel owner for many years, having retired from business in 1915. He removed to New York in 1919 and died 15 Feb 1926. His wife died 31 Dec 1926. Both are buried in Brooklyn, NY. Mr and Mrs Corcoran have a daughter, Mary.

Mr Corcoran is a Democrat, a member of St Mary's Catholic Church, and belongs to the Holy Name Society, and Kappa Sigma Phi fraternity. He is a member of the Pennsylvania State Pharmacists Association.
