The workshop will be in TWO SESSIONS:

 

 

Session I

We will explore early records that exist in Mississippi for the seven oldest counties of Alabama established under the MS Territory.

We will discuss early land record offices.

We will discuss early county probate records. This includes deed records, marriage records, orphan’s court records, probate minutes, probate reports, will books, marriage records, loose estate papers, etc.

We will also discuss other miscellaneous records in the local probate offices that many do not know about. These include local birth & death registers prior to 1908, Delayed Birth Certificate Registers, Soldiers & Sailors Records (discharge records), Confederate Veteran Census Rolls, Insane Records, etc.

We will discuss the various legal documents published in old local newspapers, and their purposes.

 

 

Session II

We will discuss early chancery records such as divorces, suits, etc.

We will discuss genealogical records that exist in the Alabama Supreme Court.

We will discuss genealogical information that may be found in early legislative records. We will discuss early state census records and their significance.

We will discuss the genealogical materials that can be found in other private holding records in Alabama such as church and civic organizational records (Masonic records).
