Hugh Page was born in 1822 proably in Smith Co., TN. He was the second child and second son born to Barnabas Page and Mary Allen who had 10 children, one dying as an infant. Barnabas left a will in dated February 1865 in DeKalb Co., TN. AS you can see, the name Barnabas or 'Barney' has been carried down through the Page family. The first name, Hugh, comes from the Allen family.Barnabas was the s/o Jacob Page and Lourana, his 2nd wife, who died about March 7, 1805 Barnwell Co., South Carolina. By 1814, Lourana was a widow was living in Smith Co., TN. Mary Allen was the d/o Hezekiah Allen and Martha Lawson.

Letter from Tom Simpson (March 25, 1999)
Last year, my Dad and I tried to go to the cemetery where Hugh Page is supposed to be buried. It is on Jones Creek, now on private property, just above water line of Center Hill Lake. The gate had a lock on it and no one was at home at a nearby house. Per Willis Page, he and DeKalb Co historian, Tommy Webb, think this cemetery on the original land settled by Hezekiah Allen. Willis said he could remember an old log house that was near. They also think that this is where Hezekiah and wife are buried. There are apparently several graves that just have a pile of stones and no head stone.

--Jemima (Atnip) Page died in fire
Very little is known about the Baldwin family. Elizabeth Baldwin, the first wife of Hugh Page, was born about 1824 probably in Smith Co., TN and she died sometime beween the 1860 DeKalb Co., TN census which was enumerated August 5, 1860 and February 3, 1863 when Hugh Page married his 2nd wife, Jemima Atnip. Elizabeth is believed to be buried in an unmarked grave at the Page Cemetery on Jones Creek in DeKalb Co., TN.
My great great grandmother was Jemima Atnip, the second wife of Hugh Page and the daughter of Benjamin Atnip and his 2nd wife, Jemima Herron?Herring. She was born January 19, 1833 in Warren Co., TN and died February 9, 1913 in DeKalb Co., TN when she perished in a house fire.
So far we haven't been able to find out anything on the Herron family - not even any proof of the surname, even though the surname was given to us back in the mid 1960's by a reliable source. Picture of Jemima (Atnip) Page
Courtesy of Liz MarcelloBenjamin Atnip was born about 1791 in Shenandoah Co., Virginia and died about August 1839 at Holmes Creek in DeKalb Co., TN. He would have married Jemima about 1820-1821 somewhere near the Smith Co., TN area. No marriage record has been located. Benjamin had been previously married to a Miss McGinnis, the d/o Alexander McGinnis, Sr.
