We actually know very little about Isaac Job(e) which can be proved with records. So far, no will or estate record has been discovered which comes right out and names his children. The records we do have indicate:
- Thomas Green Papers
-traces the MacKay descendants, shows Samuel Job who had married Dorcas MacKay, d/o Zachariah Mackay and gd/o Robert MacKay Sr., and several of his sons had migrated to Missouri Territory by 1819.
- Leaves of a Memorandum Book
--belonged to William Franklin Jobe Sr (1843-1900), the grandfather of Katharine Renolds, shows Isaac to be among the children named for Samuel Jobe and Dorcas MacKay.
- Letter of March 12, 1890 by W. F. Jobe to Barney Jobe of Canton, MO
- Names 4 brothers of his father, Daniel Jobe - Jacob, Caleb, Abraham and Isaac
-says their father was named Samuel
- Common First Names
--Jobe family of Jobe Twp, Oregon Co., MO has several Isaacs, Samuel, Dorcas, Jacobs, and even Caleb Jobes in their linesKatharine Reynolds, Bill Jobe (of the Journal), and I have tried to reconstruct the migration of an Isaac Jobe who we believe to be the progenitor of the Jobe Township, Oregon Co., MO Jobe family.
- Isaac Job signs petiton in Knox Co., TN- Eli B. Jobe, son (my ancestor) was born
-one male over 16, one horses or mares and no acreage
-Isaac Job -west side of Livingston Creek with 1 male over 16, 1 horse or mare with 200 acres on the Tradewater River
-"John Easley, land entry # 711, 200 acres on west side of Tradewater River on Isaac Job's west boundary line"Today, this land would probably be in Caldwell Co., KY which was created in 1809 from Christian County.
It is impossible to study and research the Jobe families of this area without first studying the historical happenings between 1803 and 1850. The boundaries were constantly changing. As I quickly found out, a family could live within a 5 miles radius and at different times live in 2 states and at least 5 different counties.TIME LINE FOR NE AR and SE MO
- 1803 - Louisiana Purchase (this included a very BIG area)
- 1804 - Orleans Territory and Louisiana Territory
- 1805 - Madrid Territory
- 1812 - Cape Girardeau Territory
- 1813 - Territory of Missouri was created
- 1813 - New Madrid County (1 of 5 originals in MO territory)
- 1815 - Lawrence County (today in AR but then in MO territory)
- 1818 - Wayne County (MO Territory) created
- 1819 - Territory of Arkansas was created (boundary with MO disputed)
- 1819 - Lawrence County MO becomes Lawrence County AR territory
- 1821 - State of Missouri was created
- 1825 - Izard Co., AR created from Independence & Fulton Co., AR
- 1833 - Ripley Co., MO created from Wayne Co., MO
- 1835 - Randolph Co. AR created from Lawrence Co., AR
- 1836 - State of Arkansas was created
- 1841 - Shannon Co., MO created from Ripley & Washington Co., MO
- 1845 - Oregon Co., MO created from Ripley Co., MO
- 1857 - Howell Co., MO created from Oregon & Ozard Co., MO
Though my Jobe branch shows up in two states and several counties, they basically lived on the Eleven Point River within a few miles of Jobe Township, which was named after Samuel Jobe. We are still doing a lot of research tring to locate the 'missing daughters' and to find 'all the children' of Isaac Jr and Caleb. As of yet, no will or estate record has been found for them. It has just recently come to my attention that there may also be a son, Jacob Jobe who at this time, I have no information on. We do have a very good record of two of the Jobe men who lived in the area, Eli B. Jobe and Samuel Jobe, as they both left wills. Thank goodness, my direct line is from Eli B. Jobe and in his will, he even names his grandson, Caleb Jobe, who is my direct ancestor.
Katherine and I corresponded on a regular basis between 1968 and 1973.
I have made more progress on my own immediate Jobe line since the Oregon County Missouri History list was started by Nancy Lewis Millsap and Lanita Scounce Miller in August 2001. Special thanks to these two ladies and to all the 'wonderful people' on this list who are so helpful and considerate - going that extra mile to help others!
