• William's Year of Birth

  Actually the 1735 birthdate for MY William has not been proven. We do know that his son, Willis was born 1770-1774. I know Boddie had 1735 as well as Rupert Farnham Thompson but they have been proven wrong in several other things - especially the dates for Rebecca English and as you know - William's children is a MESS in both of these records. So is is POSSIBLE that my William was born closer to 1740-1748 time frame and may have even been too young to fight in the war.

  The dates, below, for those related to William, have been proven by a variety of sources.

• Livelihood

  Like his father and grandfather, William was a planter, probably of tobacco.

• Marriages

  • 1st Marraige - Unknown Wife

    We do know that William was married twice. Some list his first wife as Betsey Alford. At this moment, I do not know the source of this information or whether it is true or not. In the Rupert Farnham Thompson Book, Betsey Alford is listed as wife of Benjamin Boon--which is definite NOT TRUE.. Now it is possible that she was the 1st wife of William Boon. AT this time, I have not proved this one way or the other.

    There was however a Benjamin Boon that married Betsey Alford in Greene Co, GA--but this Benjamin is NOT the son of this William Boon of Franklin Co., NC.

  • 2nd Marraige - Rebecca English

    Sometime around 1775-1778, William Boon married Rebecca English. William and Rebecca had 3 sons and 8 daughters born between 1780 and 1797.

• Misconceptions

  In Rupert Farnham's Thompson's book on p 37--he does mention the fact that it would appear that some date is wrong in view of the length of time that Rebecca had children. THIS HAS PROVEN TRUE WITH MORE RESEARCH!

  *REBECCA'S AGE: Some records indicate that Rebecca was born in 1783 and that she married in 1758 - which is IMPOSSIBLE. There is no way that Rebecca could have been born early enough to have married at this date. She had to be MUCH YOUNGER than her husband, William Boon as it has been found that she was still living in l823 and had children as late as 1797.

  The 1800 census does say that she was over 45 at this time - which gives us a date of BEFORE 1855. However, remember that her youngest child, Tabitha was born August 1797. Even if she had been 50 at this time, which I still doubt, this would make her born about 1747. Also notice in William's will, that he seems to be very concerned about her remarrying! Also note that four of his daughters are quite young. A more realistic date of birth would be 1747-1755.

  Also, with Willis, William's oldest son, being born in l770/74 which has been proven to be true--it PUTS HIM WITH THE 1st Marriage and NOT A CHILD OF REBECCA ENGLISH BOON--but of his 1st wife.

  ALSO, new information has been discovered on Benjamin Boon which puts him with the 2nd marriage - -which seems to agree more with the information in William's will.

  I give and bequeath to my four sons Willis Boon, Benjamin Boon, Sion Boon, Kinchen Boon the four negroes which I Lend to my wife Rebecca Boon (after her death or remarriage to be equally divided between them by note or other ways to them and their heirs.

  Executors to dispose of present crop in such a was as to care for wife and 4 youngest daughters. Estate no disposed of in above provisions to be divided equally among my 8 daughter:  Mary JONES, Sarah BOON, Patience BOON, Rebecca BOON, Cely BOON, Nancy BOON, Patsy BOON, Tabitha BOON, to them and their heirs & for ever.

   Now that we know a bit about our early Boon ancestry, let's learn about the families that Kinchin Sr and Jr married into by continuing the adventure with my 3rd great grandparents and their descendants.

   As stated earlier, these two Boon wives, Margaret 'Peggy' and Mary Elizabeth, will play a very vital part in the lives of their children and the values that they learned. They were both real pioneers and grandmothers that we can be proud to call our ancestors.

First must thank Patsy (Boon) Brnaton, who literally spent years researching the census and having patience with me to sort through them. Without her, I would have given up years ago when I discovered the 'real mess of misconceptions' that had been written and posted about our William Boon of Franklin Co., North Carolina.

Over the years, I've corresponded with many of Wiliam's descendants and together we have compiled a much more accurate resource for this family. Hopefully the earlier mistakes, will gradually be corrected and more records will be discovered to complete the picture.
