PARLANE, James - D27/7/1843 - At Hillend, near Annan, on the 27th ult., Mr James Parlane, farmer there, Mr P. while attending Annan market, was struck with paralysis in a respectable barber's shop, early in the afternoon, and, in defiance of the best medical skill, by ten o'clock same evening the vital spark had fled. He was much and deservedly esteemed by all who knew him, and his awfully sudden death is thus greatly lamented.

PATTERSON/COWAN, Agnes - D20/6/1846 - At Cardoness cottage, parish of Anwoth on the 20th ult., aged 94 years, after only a few hours' illness, Agnes Patterson, spouse of John Cowan, who is in the 98th year of his age, and was able to attend his wife's funeral, and at the interment laid her head in the grave. The couple had lived as man and wife together for the long period of 70 years. The old man is still in the enjoyment of good health and mental capacity, and frequently walks into Gatehouse, a distance of more than three miles.

Her ladyship was the youngest sister of the Duke of Northumberland and Lord Prudhoe. POINTER, Nathaniel - D18/8/1843 - At his house, Seymour Street, Euston Square, London, on the 18th inst, after a long and protracted illness, Nathaniel Pointer, Esq., surgeon, in the 69th year of his age. Mr Pointer was well known as the inventor of the flexible India-rubber ear-trumpet, the originator of the Anatomy Bill, &c. (For those curious an “ear horn” was a device used to help the hearing impaired (early hearing aide) and was also used from the 1600's for ship to ship communication)
