History: Belmont Plantation originally consisted of land from a Spanish grant to FranAois Pellerin. The property was then owned successively by the Sterling, Peebles, and Wyche families. Sugar production has been ongoing since the late 19th century. Belmont is the site of an unusual water-powered sugar mill. The Belmont Plantation house was destroyed by fire in 1947.
