History: Edward Shepherd and his brother Dr. Albert H. Shepherd owned very
large Plantations
in Stewart County, Georgia, in a little town called Florence, GA. This family
(between the two brothers)
owned a little over 300 slaves. Edward Thompson Shepherd's plantation was located
near the Alabama line in Florence, He lived on the plantation until 1870, then
moved to Columbus, where he died in 1882.
