Upper Cam Parish Church

St. George's was rebuilt in 1340 by Thomas Lord Berkeley in expiation of Edward II's murder. The west tower built later is of four stages, with diagonal buttresses that carry attached pinnacles. It also has panelled battlements with pinnacles. Several periods of restoration work to the church took place during the 19th C. The porch and the clerestory have similar pierced balustrades. The font is 13th C, circular and has bands of dogtooth moulding. There are stained glass windows in the church by Burlison & Grylls, east window, 1930; Clayton & Bell, south aisle east, 1875; and Kempe & Co., south aisle south-east, 1925. In the churchyard there are several fine 17th and 18th C chest tombs including many of the 'lyre-console' type.
