The ancient church on the site of St. Lawrence's was destroyed during the Civil War (1643). The new one was built by order of Parliament in 1647-8. It is a simple hall-church orientated north and south. It was restored by Thomas Fulljames in 1864, and the chancel added in 1894. It has a Restoration font with cherub-heads and acanthus-leaf.
