Syde is a pretty stone-built place at the head of a wooded valley, seven miles south of Cheltenham. The saddleback tower of St. Mary the Virgin's Church was added to the nave in the late 13th or early 14th Century. The font dates from the 15th Century and has an octagonal bowl and panels quatrefoiled with rose centres. There is an interesting example of contemporary stained glass in the church
