St. Briavels Church & Castle

St. Mary's was originally a cruciform church and Norman. It has a Norman south arcade of five bays and a Norman clerestory complete with windows. There is also a narrow south aisle with lean-to roof. The narrow north aisle has an Early English arcade of four bays and another lean-to roof. The piers are octagonal and the arches are double-chamfered. A new tower was built over the south porch in about 1830. The font is Norman and incorporates an unusual shelf of sixteen carved stone lobes projecting horizontally and radially. The stained glass east window in the church is by Powell, 1899.
