St. James, Lancaut. All that remains are the picturesque ruins of this small Norman church, on the banks of the River Wye, deep on a gorge near Chepstow. A Transitional chancel arch and east window remain. The lead font that was originally in Lancaut church is now in Gloucester cathedral (see image above). This relocated font is one of nine lead fonts in Gloucestershire. This one was made from the same mould as five others. An arcade in low relief surrounds the bowl, containing alternately figures and scrolls. The single bell was removed from the church in the late 19th century for use at the school at Woolaston.
