St. Peter's is a medieval church, enlarged and almost completely rebuilt by John Hicks, 1844-45. The two-stage west tower of circa 1340 was retained. In 1960-61 a copper spike was added to the tower by P.N. Taylor and A.W. Dickin who also made internal alterations to the church. The font is octagonal, Dec style, circa 1845. There is a contemporary stained glass window in the church by Geoffrey Robinson, 1967; and some older windows by Clayton & Bell, Joseph Bell & Son, and William Pearce Ltd.
The First World War memorial stone in the churchyard lists the names of the following 'Men of Filton' who gave their lives for their country - W.A.M. Temple, R.D. Scott, F.H. Rose, A.M. Drew, T.J. Milliner,
A.W. Biggin, C.F. Bell, A. Barrett, H. Body, C.V. Brown, C.W. Hayes, W. Ogborne, R. Shield and G. Bryant
