St. Peter's church was built in 1866 by John Middleton of Cheltenham
for Caroline, Countess of Dunraven who lived at Clearwell Castle.
The church is built of local red sandstone with Bath stone dressings.
The interior is a mixture of blue and red Forest stones with white Bath
stone in horizontal stripes. There is much rich sculpture. The pulpit
is made of Caen stone and marbles with a Forest stone base. The
font is equally elaborate. There are stained glass windows by Hardman
and also one by Payne.
