The Church of the Holy Rood is cruciform in plan and comprises chancel, transepts, nave, South porch and West tower. The general style is Perpendicular but the church contains features of all periods from Saxon to 19th Century.
The three-stage West tower dates from the 15th Century and has diagonal buttresses, an embattled parapet, and gargoyles. There is a fine Transitional chancel arch with bold chevron ornament at right angles and characteristically Late Norman carved capitals, one with waterleaf. The font is a plain Norman cylindrical bowl with a roll at the top. This bowl is mounted on a 19th Century octagonal stone stem. There are stained glass windows by Clayton & Bell; G.J. Baguley; and Heaton, Butler & Bayne, The recumbent effigies shown here are to George Lloyd and his wife dated 1584. The chest tomb, on which these effigies lie, also commemorates their five sons and seven daughters.
