Cemetery: Galford
Cemetery
- Gramp, Barbara - Re: Galford Cemetery. 23Mar2002.
The Galford Ancestry, by Lloyd Pritt Galford, Gateway Press, Inc.
1981. Page 577, Cemetery Location Directory. "Located on the
property of June Robert Galford, Dunmore, Pocahontas County. On the
road approaching June Robert Galford's home, there is a slight curve
in the road which upon close inspection reveals that at one time a
house and associated buildings stood nearby. This was known as the
"Old McLaughlin House." The cemetery is located across the
valley's stream from the house's site and is 100 to 200 yards up the
hill in the woods comprised of hardwoods and pines. Only a few stones
are commercial; most are "creek stones"." Thanks
to Pritt Galford for permission to quote cemetery directions from
his book.
Cemetery: Gum Cemetery
- Currence, Julian - Re: Gum Cemetery. 09Apr2005.
Originally posted on the RootsWeb/Ancestry.com Pocahontas Co. Message
Board on 06Apr2005. "Going from Durbin WV just outside the town
heading North just past the bridge over the Greenbrier River. Take a
left turn onto a small hard surface road, follow it for about almost
1 mile. Nearing the top of the hill you will see the sign that says
Back Mountain Rd. Take that left. About 6 miles on the right side will
be the Gum Cemetery. It is a very small cemetery with a fence around
it. Pretty nicely kept. Also, if you were coming thru Cass WV, just
past the old company store at the top of the hill on the right side
will be Back Mountain Rd. Take that right and follow that road for about
11 miles and the cemetery will be on your left. In are wondering how
I know this, it is because the majority of my ancestors and two brothers
are buried there." Thanks to Julian Currence for permission
to quote the cemetery directions.
