Mr. Alt attended Johnson Run Elementary School and Petersburg High School. He received his GED in the US Armed Forces Institute. He graduated from Strayer College and Columbia Tech. He was employed by the American Security Bank and Washington Gas Light Company and A. M. Corporation. He was vice-president of Mechtronic Corporation in Washington, DC. He founded Embossing and Repair Services with main contracts in the Pentagon. This company is presently owned and operated by his son, Daniel Alt.

He was co-founder of Sheltered Enterprises of Alexandria, VA (a workshop for the mentally retarded). He was Scout Master of BSA in National Capital Area Council and Potomac Council. He was also a Vigil member of Q.A.

Mr. Alt was a member of Dorcas Baptist Church and had held several offices in the church and association. He also had served as president of the Dorcas PTA.

Surviving are the mother of his children, Delores Alt Propst of Dorcas; two sons, Darren Alt and wife, Joyce and Daniel Alt of Dorcas; one daughter, Regina Marie Alt of Boise, ID; six grandchildren; four great grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Alma Jean Alt of Spotsylvania, VA; two half brothers, Bobby Alt and wife, Debbie of York, SC, and Billy Alt and wife, Elaine of Youngstown, OH; one half sister, Mary Kay Alt of Riverton; and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant son; a grandson, Deven Lee Alt; two brothers, Darwood “Johnny” Alt and Delmar H. Alt.

Funeral services were held Monday at the Schaeffer Funeral Home, Petersburg, with Pastor Delores Alt Propst officiating. Interment was in the North Mill Creek Cemetery, Dorcas, with military honors by the Petersburg VFW Post 6454 and West Virginia Army Honor Guard.

Christopher Brook Hedrick, 23, of Petersburg, died Wednesday, July 27, 2011, at Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown.

He was born April 22, 1988 in Petersburg and was the son of Brook Junior Hedrick and Debora (Sites) Hedrick of Petersburg.

He graduated from Petersburg High School in 2006. He was active with the Grant and Hardy County Little League Programs. He attended Potomac State College and West Virginia University. He was a member of Gordon Chapel United Methodist Church and Landes Ruritan Club.

Surviving in addition to his parents, are maternal grandparents, Judy Helmick of Petersburg and Robert Carl Sites and Rose of Riverton; three sisters; Heather Adams and husband, Dave of Petersburg, Amy Smith and husband, Mark of Moorefield and Stephanie Whetzel and husband Billy of Petersburg; two nephews; and five nieces.

Funeral services were held Sunday at the Schaeffer Funeral Home, Petersburg, with Rev. Rita G. Beeman officiating. Interment was in South branch Valley Memorial Gardens, Petersburg.

Bobby McArthur Wimer, 68, of Riverton passed away peacefully Thursday, July 28, 2011 at Eagle Mountain Ranch, Circleville.

Mr. Wimer graduated from Circleville High School. He retired in 1979 as a Union carpenter, having worked in Maryland and West Virginia. He was an avid hunter, trapper and fisherman, as well as watching all sporting events. He was a member of the Pendleton County Trappers Association and the NRA.

Surviving are two sisters, Bonnie J. Murphy of Riverton and Dessie Lambert, London, OH, several nieces and nephews and his cat, “Blue Girl.”

He was also preceded in death by his son, Timothy Allen Wimer, on July 22, 1985, and five brothers, Floyd, Omar, Homer, Brooks and Eston.

He was born April 9, 1944, in Pansy and was a son of the late James Frank Alt and Stella Emily Florence (Alt) Alt.

Mr. Alt worked for West Virginia Power, Mount Storm, for 11 years. He worked for the Iron Workers Local 28 at the steel mill in Roanoke, VA, as a first class welder for 12 years. He was United Methodist by faith.

Also surviving are one daughter, Kimberly Murphy and husband, Scott of Martinsburg; three sisters, Audrey Blosser and Martha Evans, both of Richmond, VA, and Vada Evick of Franklin, two brothers, William S. Alt of Petersburg and Kermit Alt of Bel Air, MD, and several nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by one sister, Myrtle Berg; five brothers, Orville Alt, June Alt, O. Paul Alt and Charles P. Alt and an infant brothers.

Funeral services were held Saturday at the Schaeffer Funeral Home, Petersburg, with Rev. Harold Cullers officiating. Interment was in the Kline Cemetery, Kline.

Donald Beverly Strickler, Jr., 53, of Broadway, VA, died July 28 at Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Harrisonburg, VA.

He was born Nov. 21, 1957, in Harrisonburg, VA and is the son of Donald B. and Ruby Kile Strickler of Broadway, VA.

He graduaed from Harrisonburg High School and was a commercial electrician with Dean Brothers in Harrisonburg, VA.

Mr. Strickler found great pleasure in the love of his family and friends, his love of music, playing his guitar and singing, hiking and cycling in the mountains, and enjoying the company of his beloved dog, Tazz.
