J. Pittman, 48
Steve
J. Pittman, 48, of Goose Creek, SC, died Thursday, April 8, 2010.
Mr.
Pittman was born Jan. 11, 1962, in Hot Springs, VA.
He
loved Stingrays hockey and “Cool Ray” and was an avid fan of NASCAR racing
and Dale Earnhardt, Jr. He also
enjoyed fishing for trout in West Virginia.
Most of all, he loved people and would never hesitate to help when
needed.
Surviving
are one son Jimmy Pittman of Chester, SC; his mother, Sadie Pittman of Goose
Creek, SC; two brothers, James Pittman of Goose Creek, SC, and Kenneth Pittman
of Franklin.
A
memorial visitation was held April 11 at McAlister-Smith Funeral Home, Goose
Creek, SC 29445.
Memorial

Lacy Ruddle
Reed
Lacy Ruddle, 86, of Franklin passed away on Sunday, April 18, 2010, at his
residence.
Mr.
Ruddle was born Dec. 23, 1923, in Ruddle, the son of the late Preston and Clara
Ella Ruddle.
He
was a 1941 graduate of Franklin High School, a member of Ruddle Presbyterian
Church, owner and operator of Ruddle Equipment, and a farmer.
His
wife, Kathryn Vandevander Ruddle, survives.
Also
surviving are two daughters, Pamela Miller, and husband Dennis of Broadway, VA,
and Melissa Weaver and husband, Mike of Brandywine; three sons, William Reed
“Bill” Ruddle and wife, Rachel, and Eddie Preston Ruddle and wife, Kim, all
of Franklin, and James Mark Ruddle and wife, Tracy of Brandywine; one sister,
Pauline Harman of Franklin; one brother, Richard Ruddle, Sr. and wife, Virginia
of Franklin; 16 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.
He
was also preceded in death by a grandson, Joshua Reed Ruddle; and a sister,
Maxine Dunkle.
Funeral
services were held Wednesday at the Ruddle Presbyterian Church with Rev. Kevin
Hand officiating. Interment was in
the Ruddle Cemetery.
Memorial
donations may be made to Mountain Hospice or the Ruddle Presbyterian Church.

arrangements were under the direction of the Basagic Funeral Home, Franklin.
Velma
Blondino
Velma
Thompson Blondino, 72, of New Market, VA, died Wednesday, April 14, 2010.
Ms.
Blondino was born on May 26, 1937, in Franklin and was the daughter of the late
Fred L. and Myrtle Lynn Mitchell Propst.
She
was a member of the ladies auxiliary, where she enjoyed volunteer work with
Lynchburg General Hospital and Rockingham Memorial Hospital.
She very much loved and enjoyed her grandchildren.
She was a former member and deacon of Euclid Christian Church.
Surviving
are one daughter, Susan Thompson Parke and husband, Holt of Boyce, VA; three
sons, Robert Lee “Butch” Thompson and wife, Delorse of Grottoes, VA, Michael
Leo Thompson and wife, Angie of Lacey Springs, VA, and David Scott Thompson and
companion, Jeanetta of Bridgewater, VA; four brothers, Harley Propst, Stanley
Propst, Sheldon Propst, Jesse Carroll Propst; eight grandchildren; and four
great-grandchildren.
She
was also preceded in death by six brothers and sisters.
Pastor
Jay Linaburg and the Rev. Craig Richter conducted a memorial service Sunday
afternoon at the St. John’s Lutheran Church in Moyers.
The
family will receive friends on Saturday evening from 7 to 8 p.m. at the McMullen
Funeral Home in Harrisonburg.

Odie Nelson
Elmer
Odie Nelson, 84 of Franklin, passed away on Sunday, April 18, 2010, at the
Pendleton Manor in Franklin.
Mr.
Nelson was born in Cherry Grove on March 12, 1926, the son of the late John Adam
and Laura Jane Lambert Nelson.
He
worked for WV Department of Highways and retired from Esskey Meats in Baltimore,
MD. He was an Army Veteran, a member
of Circleville Presbyterian Church and a member of the American Legion in
Franklin.
On
Jan. 26, 1951, he married Mary Elaine Fleisher, who survives in Franklin.
Also
surviving are two daughters, Janice Elaine Samuels and husband, Duane of Stuarts
Draft, VA, and Glenda Kay McCutchan of Franklin; one son, Johnny Nelson Wright
and wife, Kay of Franklin; two brothers, Bennie Nelson and Jesse Nelson and
wife, Dorothy, all of Franklin; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
He
was also preceded in death by six brothers, Bob, Glenn, Edgar, George, Richard
and Harry.
Funeral
services will be held today at 11 a.m. at the chapel of the Basagic Funeral Home
in Franklin with Rev. Will Vaus officiating.
Interment will be in North Fork Memorial Cemetery, Riverton.
Memorial
donations may be made to Mountain Hospice.
The
family received friends on Wednesday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Diana
Lynn Morrison
Diana
Lynn Morrison, 53, passed away at March 29, 2010 at 2:20 a.m.
She has left her family for a better place, after suffering from multiple
illnesses.
Born
March 28, 1957, she was the daughter of Ruby and Jack Warner of the North Fork
area.
Her
husband, Dan Morrison, survives.
Also
surviving are sons, Bobby Arnold and George Branch; grandson, Damien Branch;
brothers and sisters, Gary, Vickie, Lorrain and Carol; and numerous nieces and
nephews.
She
was cremated.
Arrangements were under the direction of the Eternity Funeral Home, Jacksonville, FL.
