Carol Roadcap, 72

Carol Sue Wimer Roadcap, 72, a resident of Harrisonburg, VA, passed away on Saturday, March 30, 2013 at Rockingham Memorial Hospital, Harrisonburg, VA

She was born on December 14, 1940 in Cherry Grove and was the daughter of the late Cam and Euthel Helmick Wimer.

Mrs. Roadcap graduated from Bridgewater High School and moved to Harrisonburg area in 1956. She was employed with Tyco before retiring in 2001 and was a member of the Laurel Hill Full Gospel Church in Verona, VA.

On October 13, 1956 she married Robert C. Roadcap, Sr., who preceded her in death on October 29, 1991.

Surviving are two sons, Robert C. Roadcap, Jr. of Kearneysville, Tommy A. Roadcap of Fulks Run, VA; daughter, Sherri D. Cavanaugh of Staunton, VA; eight grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; two brothers, Robert E. Wimer of Mt. Crawford, VA, Berlin J. Wimer of Dayton, VA; three sisters, Dorene Cobb of Lakeland, FL, Arlene Thompson of Richmond, Helen Shipe of Singers Glen; and a number of nieces and nephews.

She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Teresa L. Roadcap; and a sister, Betty Redifer .

A funeral service will be held Friday at 10 a.m. at Laurel Hill Full Gospel Church with Rev. William Strickler and Rev. Kenneth Lott officiating. Burial will follow in Port Republic Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Lindsey Funeral Home in Harrisonburg, VA.

Mary Ellen Turner

Mary Ellen Turner, age 49, of Brandywine passed away on Monday, April 1, 2013 at her residence after a long illness.

She was born at Harrisonburg, VA on May 20, 1963, the daughter of Bonnie Mae (Rodgers) Sites of Harrisonburg and Daniel Eavers of Mt. Solon, VA.

Mrs. Turner attended Buffalo Gap High School and was a Brethren by faith. She was a Store Clerk at the 7-11 Convenience Store.

Her husband, Charles Edward Turner survives.

Surviving are a daughter, Falisha Ann Woodell of Harrisonburg, VA; two sons, Daniel Matthew Crawford of Weyers Cave, VA, Tim Charles Turner of Brandywine; a sister, Diane Lynn Michael and husband Larry of Mt. Solon, VA; three step sisters, Denise and Cathy Sites, both of Harrisonburg,VA, and Crystal Shaver and husband Tim of Churchville, VA; two brothers, Eddie Eavers and wife Jan of Staunton, VA, Gary Eavers and wife Kathy of Dayton, VA; a step brother, Toby Painter and wife Glenna of Shenandoah, VA; and three grandchildren, TJ Turner, Cameryn Turner, and Gabriel Crawford.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 6, at 6p.m. at the Mt. Solon Pentecostal Church in Mt. Solon, VA, with Pastor Charles David Clindenst officiating.

Friends and family may call at the home of her sister, Diane Michael in Mt. Solon at any time.

Sylvia Jefferies, 90

Sylvia Sue (Black) Jefferies, 90, formerly of Kingwood passed away on Monday, Jan 28, 2013, at Bedford Court, Silver Spring, MD.

Born Nov 7, 1922, in Kline, she was a daughter of the late Walter W. “Mike” Black and Olena Dahmer Black.

A memorial service will be held Saturday at 1 p.m. at Rotruck-Lobb Funeral Home, Kingwood.

Gladys Richards Casdorph

It is with great sadness that the family of Gladys Arlene Sheets Richards Casdorph announces her passing. She died peacefully early Thursday morning, March 28, 2013, at the Brier Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Greenbrier County, one day after her 97th birthday.

Born March 27, 1916, at Spruce Flats, in Pocahontas County, she was a daughter of the late Edward C. and Maude Jane Loudermilk Sheets.

At the time of her death, it is believed that she was the oldest surviving alumnus of Hillsboro High School. She attended business school in Charleston. She had various occupations throughout her life. She farmed with her first husband in Renick; served as the chief baker for the former Greenbrier Military School in Lewisburg; and for 14 years owned and operated three boarding houses for the elderly at the Elmhurst in Caldwell, and also operated homes in Ronceverte and Pence Springs. She worked in the telephone business for 37 years first in Hillsboro, followed by Frankford, Denmar Sanitarium and Seneca Rocks.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Homer Sell Richards; her second husband, Ohley F. Casdorph; her oldest daughter, Ellen Jane “Janie” Perkins, wife of the late Harry Perkins, on March 12, 2013; a sister, Geraldine McLaughlin; and a foster brother and his wife, Elmer and Blanche Wymer of Hillsboro.

Gladys is survived by her youngest sister, Ruth Beverage, of Weston; children, Stuart Richards, of Renick, Edna Rothwell, of Morgantown, and Terry Richards, and his partner, Martin Jepsen, of Cincinnati, Ohio; a step-daughter, Sarah Jean Chilton, and husband, John, of Nashville, Tennessee; her life-long friend and “sister at heart,” Bernice Ratliff, of Union.

She had six grandchildren, Jeffrey Stuart Richards, and wife, Angela, and her children, Elizabeth and Haley, of Renick, Annie Perkins, and husband, Dave Campbell, of Hamilton, New Zealand, Harry “Perk” Perkins, II, and fiancée, Vickey Neel, of Frankford, and her children, Jennifer and Brianne; Remington “Rem” Perkins, and wife, Mary, and their five children, Lauren, Claire, Ethan, Katelyn and Trinity, of Frankford, Ellen Bryner, and husband, Jamie, of Bruceton Mills, and their three children, Marisa, Riley and James, and Anne Bashman, and husband, Brett, and their two children, Soleil Gladys (her namesake) and Beckett; and several nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews, and their children.

She was also a member of the Bible Baptist Church of Sissonville. Her pastor, the Reverend Dave Thaxton, will preside over the services. Visitation, services and vurial will be held Saturday, April 6, at the McCraw Funeral Home, 304 Courtney Drive, Lewisburg. Visitation will be from noon until 2 p.m. when services will be held.

Burial will immediately follow at the Oak Grove Cemetery in Hillsboro.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Greenbrier Valley Hospice Care, 223 Maplewood Avenue, Ronceverte, WV 24970 (which recently supported the last stages of Gladys’ daughter Janie’s life journey), the Bible Baptist Church of Sissonville, 7020 Sissonville Drive, Sissonville, WV 25320 or a charity of your choice.

Eunice Caldwell Thompson

Eunice Caldwell Thompson, 67, a resident of Dayton, VA, passed away Monday morning, April 1, 2013, at her home. She had not enjoyed good health for the past five months.

A daughter of the late Albert and Catherine McDorman Caldwell, she was born on March 14, 1946 in Rockingham County, VA.

She lived in Upper Tract for a year, but made her home in Rockingham County, VA for the majority of her life.

Mrs. Thompson had worked for Marvel-Rocco-Cargill in Dayton and Swift Company. She attended Peak Pentecostal Church for the past 35 years, and enjoyed taking care of her children, cooking for her family and going to yard sales.

Her husband, Ira Blair Thompson, survives.

Also surviving are four children, Patricia Fink and husband, Benny of Harrisonburg, VA; Kenny Thompson and wife, Sharon, and Tammy Thompson, of Rawley Springs, VA; and Shawn Thompson of Dayton, VA; six grandchildren, Kevin Harold, and Christopher Fink; Brian Thompson, Travis McNett, Kayla Thompson and Brittany Kline, one great-granddaughter, Haylee Cash; and one brother, Robert Caldwell of Hinton; and special friends, Sandy Obaugh, Thelma Brooks, Sylvia Caldwell, Lee Brown, and Pastor Laney Knight and wife, Helen.

She was preceded in death by a brother, Rocky Caldwell.

Funeral services will be held today at 2 p.m. from the Chapel of the Lindsey Harrisonburg Funeral Home with Pastor Laney Knight and Pastor Sonny Henkel officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Clinton Cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Wednesday evening at the Lindsey Harrisonburg Funeral Home, Harrisonburg, VA.
