Ora Mae Tacy Herron, 95,
formerly of Huttonsville and of the Cedar Haven Nursing home in Lebanon,
Pa., for the past five years, died at 4 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 9, 2000,
in the Good Samaritan Hospital in Lebanon. Mrs. Herron was born
April 20, 1905, a daughter of the late Holt Samuel and Lucy
Kittle Swecker.
She was twice married. In 1923, she married Ray H. Tacy, who preceded
her in death on April 6, 1961. In 1968, she married Clarence Herron,
who preceded her in death on Nov. 14, 1981.
Surviving are two daughters, Dixie Rhine, Arlington, Va., and Delores
Jeanne Russell, Lebanon, Pa.; one stepson, Andrew Herron; two brothers,
Gail Swecker and Donald Swecker, both of Huttonsville; three sisters,
Georgia Pingley, Knoxville, Tenn., Arlene Brock, Parsons, and Betty
Schilling, Elmira, N.Y.; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren
and three great-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two sons, James Tacy and Layne Tacy;
four brothers, Arling, Clyde, Carroll and Arden Swecker, Sr.; five
sisters, Hazel Light, Freda Tacy, Fannie Bias, Eula Simmons and Carrie
Loudin; and two grandchildren.
Mrs. Herron attended the schools of Randolph County and served as
a housemother at West Virginia Wesleyan College for five years. She
was a member of Randolph Chapter No. 74 Order of the Eastern Star
and the Mill Creek Memorial Mission Church.
Funeral Notice - Friends will be received from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday
at Tomblyn Funeral Home. Randolph Chapter No. 74 Order of the Eastern
Star will conduct a memorial service at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral
home chapel. Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Wednesday. The Rev.
Frank Long will officiate. Interment will follow at the Brick Church
Cemetery in Huttonsville. |
