The Allegheny Regional Family History Society The ALLEGHENY REGIONAL
FAMILY HISTORY SOCIETY is a non-profit organization dedicated
to promoting interest in and preservation of family history
and genealogy throughout the Allegheny Mountain Region. While
no physical boundaries have been set for the Allegheny Region,
it might best be defined as those counties in northeast West
Virginia, southwest Pennsylvania, western Maryland and northwest
Virginia; and may include any area that received a settlement
of people from that area in the last two centuries.
AN EXCELLENT GROUP FOR NON-RESIDENTS The ALLEGHENY REGIONAL FAMILY HISTORY SOCIETY
is organized in such a way that persons living outside, but
with research interest within the Allegheny Region, can benefit
from membership in the organization. All members can advertise
their wants, needs and problems FREE in the ALLEGHENY
REGIONAL ANCESTORS. Each new member is requested to submit
a five generation ancestor chart or surname list. Surnames
on the charts and lists along with the corresponding addresses
of members are published periodically in the quarterly journal.
Thus, persons not living within the Allegheny Region, or who
are unable to attend meetings can communicate with those with
a like or similar interest.
MEETINGS Meetings are held on the first Tuesday
of each month at 7:00 PM in the library, located in the I.O.O.F.
Lodge Building, US Rt. 219 & 250, about 3 miles South of Elkins,
across from the Elkins Regional Convalescent Center.
ALLEGHENY REGIONAL ANCESTORS QUARTERLY JOURNAL The ALLEGHENY REGIONAL FAMILY HISTORY SOCIETY
publishes a quarterly journal, ALLEGHENY REGIONAL ANCESTORS.
In addition to the queries and surname lists mentioned, the
journal also contains a news section that reports various
items of interest to family historians. Also carried are numerous
feature articles and records of a genealogical and historical
interest from within the Allegheny Region..
